I have been working at Skillz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Skillz is a fast- paced and exciting place to work. The company and the technology is cutting edge. It is really rewarding to work for a company whose platform is growing quickly and already powers games that are played by 10's of millions of people across the world. The company is very data driven and employees set goals by which they are measured on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis. The environment is collaborative and fun, supported by frequent group and team building events at the offices. While the high growth environment can be intense, there is a healthy level of work/life balance. Finally, the company provides a strong set of employee benefits (health care, 401k, vacation accruals, commuter, etc).

    Cons

The workplace, like many high growth companies, can be intense, as there is a high degree of accountability. So, for some people the fast paced nature of the workplace may not be an ideal fit.

I have been working at Skillz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

My time at the company thus far has been an amazing experience, The Skillz team is full of bright and driven individuals that are open and collaborative. The People truly embody the core values of the company creating a fun and exciting workplace. At Skillz you get to work with such a diverse group of people focused on supporting the corporate goals and working on a platform that makes a real impact on people's lives.

    Cons

I don't consider this necessarily a con, but we are a rapidly growing company in an industry that is growing larger every year so we operate in a fast paced environment and you need to be able to pull your sleeves up and not be afraid to get your hands dirty helping support the company goals.

I have been working at Skillz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Skillz hires the best, and works hard to cultivate employees to be their best. It's lots of fun, fast paced, and you have a direct impact to our customers and our product. Also, you get to play games at work!

    Cons

It is a startup. If you don't like wearing many hats and pitching in, then this is probably not for you. You work and play hard at Skillz, and that isn't for everyone. I have heard gripes about the office - but I am here to solve that problem.. SFO gets a new office in less than a month!

I have been working at Skillz full-time

    Pros

The people here are incredibly smart, and that’s an inspiring environment to come into every day. Skillzians are also deeply passionate about our mission, product, and potential – and our continued success reinforces that passion at every turn. We’ve grown so quickly that we’re now occupying not just one or two floors of the building, but four of them! This has driven one of the most exciting recent developments everyone is buzzing about…our new office! At the end of March we’re relocating our SF headquarters to a beautiful building in the most desirable area of SoMa. We all had the chance to tour the space in advance and see how it will be customized for our needs, and I can’t wait for the next Skillz chapter to begin in our new home. As we turn this page, I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had at Skillz and all the incredible people I’ve been lucky to call my colleagues along the way. We’ve already come so far, but there’s even more in store for our future and it’s the perfect time to come on board.

    Cons

Not everyone wants to work in a fast-paced environment, and that’s definitely what you’ll find at Skillz. The company is full of ambitious people who care about our mission of making gaming better, and work hard to further that goal. We’ve also been in a less desirable neighborhood, but with the impending office move that’s about to change!

I have been working at Skillz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great place to work on data engineering and data science problem domains (fast data infrastructure, player matching, game profiling, fraud, recommendation, nlp etc.) . Fast paced, challenging and rewarding experience. Every project is tie to the company bottom line, talking about making an impact! Friendly people to work with, metrics driven (KPIs, OKRs), transparency in the process.

    Cons

location can be a lot more improved.

    Cons

Pretty fast paced, so you need to hang on tight.

"Great place to work if you like the start-up environment - Not for everyone"

I have been working at Skillz full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The team - the people who make up this company are amazing. Everyone wants to see you succeed. Managers care deeply about your development. We operate as a team and you can really feel that here. The work - What I like so much about working here is the kind of things I get to do really make an impact. At previous jobs, I was a just number, but at a start-up in this stage of it's life, the decisions I make and the work I do feels like it matters. The executive team - Our execs are great. They care about you and your development, and they care about your time here. Andrew (CEO) is awesome, super smart, and a great leader. They hold regular meetings where anyone in the company can ask them questions, which clearly states they care deeply about everyone here. They are transparent and trusting, and I don't think you'd find a better executive team out there. Opportunities - There are so many opportunities to learn and grow professionally. I've learned skills in my short time here that would have taken years at a larger company to come across those opportunities to learn. I'm given the chance by my higher-ups at every turn to learn and grow into the role I am excited about. Balance - While there is a ton of work to do, your manager cares about your work-life balance. You are expected to take vacations, go to the doctor, and take personal days. No one holds that against you and it is actually encouraged. I was supported by the company during a very difficult time in my life and took a lot of time off, but that didn't affect my development.

    Cons

Start-up - It's a fast-paced job in a fast-paced every changing industry. Things are change. Your job responsibilities will change. This isn't for everyone, and it can be taxing on anyone. Workload - There is so much to do, it never really ends. I don't have any downtime, and work hard during my workday. I hear a lot of coworkers talking about feeling overworked and overwhelmed, and I definitely feel that too. The workload isn't for everyone, and it's felt company wide.

I have been working at Skillz full-time

    Pros

    - Everyone is very intelligent leading to stimulating conversation/ideation no matter the topic - As mentioned in the headline, the company is growing extremely fast. This leads to an overall positive and collaborative atmosphere every day as everyone wants to contribute to this meteoric growth - Fast-paced learning environment; every day provides a new and interesting, yet manageable, challenge, leading to rapid personal and professional growth - Management is very transparent about the state of the company - Great work/life balance for all employees - Free catered dinner Monday-Thursday - Everyone can play Skillz games at their desk

    Cons

    - High employee turnover - Not an ideal location - Occasionally can be hard to push through new proposals as there is still a lot of executive oversight into most decision-making (which is not necessarily a bad thing as the C-suite level employees are all very intelligent and experienced, it just can make progress feel a little slower)
