      Pros

Great ten week training program. Great destinations. Great hotel accommodations during layovers. Very safe airline. Computer system will generate rosters for all cabin crew members, so that no matter how junior you are, you are guaranteed each month long haul flights. Teaches you great teamwork, especially when you have to do a meal service on a 1h20min flight from Singapore to Jakarta.

      Cons

Five year contract. You will be forced to resign if by the age of 42 or your third 5-year contract, whichever comes first, you are not promoted to Leading steward/stewardess. Flight stewardesses must resign immediately once they are pregnant. And if they intend to return after giving birth, they must do so within 2 years. No maternity leave. Management has little idea what goes on during the flight.

      Terrible & Backwards for IT

      Pros

Cabin crew team is awesome and are the reason for the companies success. Don't let the CEO or senior management steal the shine from them. The people I worked with on a team level were kind and many are still my friends today. Benefits (free dental, healthcare, etc). Company looks good on CV

      Cons

I worked in the IT department and it was a mess. The way they work is 10-15 years behind the rest of the world. The IT department is going through an Agile transformation run by admin people with no IT experience and it is a dumpster fire inside of train wreck. To be a manager, you have to work there for over 10 years and be liked. Being competent, knowing how to lead people or having basic social skills is not a prerequisite. Management is very old school, hierarchical and have no idea what they are doing. It is just a boys club full of old men. They have never worked in any other company and it shows with their old school kiasu mindset. Decision making process is not democratic. All decisions are made at the unqualified management level IT is too dependent on cheap vendors. Results in slow delivery and inferior product. Not many young people, stifling innovation. Pay is below market level. During my time, IT HR did some number manipulation/cherrypicking to show it is at market level. We got a small pay-rise to make it look like action was being taken. It was an insult to all our intelligence. From a diversity perspective, it is still in the dark ages. LGBTQ inclusion is not there. In fact, the LGBTQ community is not even mentioned. In-flight, any films with LGBTQ references (they refer to it as "promoting homosexual lifestyle" in the internal guide) are banned. This is very ironic given that many cabin crew themselves are LGBTQ, and they are the ones responsible for the companies great reputation.

      Pros

      - Great medical coverage and travel benefits - Annual 1 free ticket seated in Premium Economy/Economy Class - Unlimited discounted tickets (subjected to passenger load) on SIA, Scoot, Silkair, and other subsidiary/selected partner airlines - Great working environment to meet multiple backgrounds and experiences of people - Widen your knowledge and experiences on F&B, travel opportunities to main cities - No strict curfews or restrictions, freedom to stay anywhere at base (no hostels) - Plenty of self-directed courses to upskill and improve soft skills, courses that offer certification etc - Always advocate positive values to boost morale - Lots of curriculum activities and societies to join - Celebrate cabin crew achievements and festive seasons - Bonus/profit sharing every year

      Cons

      - Inflexible protocol or procedures to follow sometimes - Not everyone is receptive towards your feedback or suggestions, sometimes can be authoritative and rigid on behaviour and gestures - No opportunity to travel in business/first class on staff tickets - Discounted tickets only for economy class - Working flights only get to fly 1-2 main cities in a country instead of multiple smaller cities - High competition and longer years to promote, metrics for promotion are sometimes unjustifiable and inflexible

      Pros

It's really a lifestyle, not a job! These days the cabin crew are much friendlier to work with!

Poor treatment and welfare of cabin crew

      May 13, 2020 - Cabin Crew

      Pros

Very hard to say as I am still recovering from working here. If I were to pinpoint, it would be the salary (which remains more or less stagnant unless you are promoted which happens if you have a sparkly clean record and negligible amount of MCs taken even if you get sick) and travel perks

      Cons

Poor treatment of cabin crew by senior management. It is a fairly regular occurrence for cabin crew to get insulted, shouted at, accused by senior management onboard flights. Instead of providing constructive feedback, they resort to punishment strategies in the form of micromanagement, demeaning feedback, and selective favoritism. In other words, they employ mere bullying tactics to assert their power over junior staff. Imagine being stuck with such an overbearing colleague on long-haul flights. It takes a psychological toll on you, and shortly after, a physical toll too because you will relive the nasty moments in your head once you are alone in your hotel room in a foreign country. Junior cabin crew are treated the most poorly of all.
