      I worked at Sierra-Cedar

      Pros

Great company, leadership, attitude. I really enjoyed a leadership that is not "hovering" over you every day. They trust you to know what your job is and to get it done by the deadline.

      Cons

Would like higher pay, less travel, more mentoring.

      Pros

This is almost like being an independent consultant except you have a team behind you to find the projects and provide support.

      Cons

Like any IT consulting job, the travel can be 100%

Collegial atmosphere. Smart, dedicated consultants. Talented management team.

      Cons

Lots of change recently due to merger. Getting better though.

      Advice to Management

More communication (internal change management!) about the company's initiatives and short/medium/long-term strategies would be great.

      I worked at Sierra-Cedar full-time

      Pros

Good earning potential - if you choose the Hourly plan and manage to stay billable. Management is mostly hands off. Great 401K

      Cons

Salary plans are not competitive with what other companies offer. Most people I knew took the Hourly plan, which is great if you're willing to take some risk and can keep billable. Bench time is a killer. Benefits costs are outrageous. Employee shoulders close to 100% of the cost. No raises so you better negotiate a good rate when you start. No training whatsoever. You use your own laptop, which is fine,...

      I worked at Sierra-Cedar full-time

      Pros

Casual Dress, Work From Home opportunities, A mostly relaxed environment. The company isn't advanced enough to have many effective processes and procedures so most work can be performed without too much red-tape...however this presents a whole other list of issues. Good PTO amount...because the Insurance is so bad.

      Cons

Terrible Insurance offerings, employee pays almost all of the Premiums, and no additional Benefits. . No Bonus except for Directors or above. Terrible Office...it's in a good location but too small and no amenities. The "former" CFO and still an Executive also owns the building and is cheap. No wall hangings/decorations allowed, no rearranging the furniture even if it's needed. Can't even put up name tags on the offices...

      Advice to Management

Hire some new blood from the outside and actually listen to them. You say that's what you want, but really it's not. You want someone to keep executing the same old "tired" methods of Management and just doing it the same old way. Hire Managers and Leaders, don't just keep promoting administrators to become Managers without them having Management experience somewhere else or you'll keep getting the same results. That's...

I worked at Sierra-Cedar full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Great people. Supportive management. Generally a good work-life balance.

      Cons

No company sponsored training. No training program. Training costs are partially paid by the employee.

      Advice to Management

Greater support for training. Encouraging cross training and training on new products would be win-win for the employee and company.
