I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Lots of opportunities to learn
    Amazing manager
    Flexibility
    Tight-knit family of employees

    Cons

Potential for a lot of conflicts
Owner isn't involved at all; management is left dealing with every single problem without any support from the owner, which can get exhausting/demotivating

    Advice to Management

Advice to the owner: Get more involved in the day-to-day business and get to know your staff. It is so apparent that all you care about is profit and not the well-being of your employees, and it's disheartening. If the store manager wasn't so amazing, you'd lose all of your best employees within a week.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice coworkers, decent store discount, flexible hours, not too difficult work, locations everywhere

    Cons

Having to page someone to help if you need to use the bathroom, low wages, and NOT BEING PAID TO CLOSE! Seriously sometimes if the morning paperwork was complicated or involved a lot of cash, it would take me 20-30 mins extra to compile that with the evening paperwork - and it doesn’t help that they insisted that all the bills be facing the same way, coins be changed into bills for the deposit if there were too many from all the deposits you had to compile from the day’s cashed out tills, and the pages of paperwork had to be stapled in the exact rihjr way. And we only got paid til right when the ‘closed’ sign went up! I’ve talked to other Shoppers employees and it seems like standard practice for management to actually ask employees to go clock out and come back to finish the closing paperwork. And it’s considered your own fault if you’re not fast enough at it to finish it in a few minutes even though it’s completely unreasonable.

    Advice to Management

Stop being disgustingly cheap and PAY your employees to close!! We are entitled to pay as long as we are there working for you! This is the whole reason I quit. If I didn’t get paid to close 5 days a week, it’s like losing 2.5 hours of work basically.
