I worked at STA Travel full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Used to be a brilliant, caring company who treated staff with respect. Perks were really good and bonuses have also been good in the past. Travel is on the whole low paid, however experience and performance used to be rewarded well.

    Cons

Change of senior management has put paid to a the pros. Its a difficult time for sure, but the rot set in well before covid and the company is only going one way. Sales are down massively, the brand no longer connects with its core customers and staff are treated like garbage. There are currently 200 of us going through redundancy, essentially they are using covid as a way to get rid of staff on better contracts so they can employ unsuspecting 20 years old on 15k a year. Throughout redundancy no one has said sorry or thanked long serving staff for their service. Instead they are ignoring contracts and policies in the hope that no one bothers to take them to a tribunal.

I worked at STA Travel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not many. Can make good commission if you work in a busy store location and actually get the enquiries. Perks are good with the suppliers such as free trips/money off (in normal times).

    Cons

Throughout COVID-19 the lack of communication with their staff has been terrible. Not to mention everything is always last minute announcements. Store and individual targets were near impossible in quiet store locations. Store manager was not understanding nor supportive, very negative. Head office and HR had knowledge of complaints made against this manager and yet did nothing to support the employees/investigate further. All around I would not recommend anyone to work here. Yes the perks can be good but the bad outweighs the good for this company unfortunately. Have treated customers terribly throughout the virus and staff even worse. Employees who have served the company for many years have been made redundant and all the newer employees have been kept on, no loyalty whatsoever.

I worked at STA Travel full-time

    Pros

Bonuses were initially good if you performed well, you could be getting £1k a month bonus fairly easily and top sellers were getting £3k+ extra. However this has recently changed and a hard working month could result in you getting nothing or £100-£200. Not worth the stress!! There were a fair few freebies out there, though this wasn’t from STA directly and was usually provided by other suppliers. Some good social events.

    Cons

They just didn’t seem to care for their staff. I had booked a trip worth $12.5k with them and when it call go cancelled due to covid-19 they refused to refund me. I understand this has happened to many, but to do this to your own hard working employees really took the biscuit. Disgusting treatment of their staff. Staff were regularly over worked, acting as customer service assistants, receptionists, accountants, sales persons, cleaners and much more. All for minimum wage. If you didn’t hit your target it was a lot of hard work for sweet FA.
