I worked at STA Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free coffee, good commission/salary structure, relaxed work environment

    Cons

Marketing and sales teams don't work closely together. Meaning packages go on sale and the travel dates are so limited it makes the agent's job difficult where they could write on every ad 'blackout dates, school holidays etc.. Do not apply!' The 'Fr' (From) in marketing is not clearly understood by most clients'. Why not write the full word. Managers tend to think about the month-month objective more than the overall picture. There are months we doubled our sales target as a team and then one bad month would come and the office vibe would change. There are some agents who get away with unethical business practices and policy violations, whilst others get slamed for a real oversight.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at STA Travel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Occasionally get to put together a really interesting trip Lots of social activities if you want a social workplace Some great colleagues Discounted travel

    Cons

Where to begin... Terrible out-dated computer systems that make the job much harder than it should be Ridiculously low pay - even doubling your monthly target you are earning a minimal wage Extremely poor upper management - some good store managers, but head office in Melbourne are useless and the head office overseas is even worse when you do hear from them – new CEO is going to destroy the business quickly if the last few months are anything to go by No career progression - store managers make less than decent sellers, it's not worth it No recognition for smashing targets, but make a tiny mistake and head office will be all over you Way more stress than there should be for a minimum wage job. So many things can go wrong and half of them are out of your control – many staff having serious stress issues and even nightmares about things going wrong Clear favouritism – some staff get shredded for tiny mistakes, others who are friends with the head office in Melbourne get away with whatever they want – clearly breaching policies (markups etc), ignoring customers they don’t want to deal with – doesn’t matter if you’re friends with the bosses Force "product nights" that you have to go to outside work hours - while they can't technically make you go, you will be looked down on for not going. While they say you can take the time in lieu for attending, everyone already works so much free overtime to try and actually make some bonus so that is laughable.

I worked at STA Travel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you have a passion for travel, you'll meet some great, like-minded people. The office is in a great location, near shops, parks and the underground.

    Cons

Management provided no feedback or strategy. No idea what our manager did, apart from steal the credit for successful ideas and blame us for unsuccessful ideas. It was discovered that management also asked individuals to compete against each other, rather than working as a team! Craziness!

I have been working at STA Travel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1) Amazing perks i.e. FAM trips to places like Australia, Thailand etc. all paid for along with free & discounted trips 2) Progression is encouraged and you are given a lot of training and help with progressing through management 3) Working with amazing people and getting to meet fellow STA employees from around the UK and around the world 4) Fun work environment 5) Bonus scheme is brilliant for travel experts

    Cons

Really there is no cons of the job, only that the work life balance is quite tricky to manage with it being a targeted environment you feel like you want to be at work and earning money all of the time but they do encourage you and give advice on the work life balance, it's just hard to manage when you are money driven.
