    Working here is interesting and keeps bringing new challenges. In my roll every day is different. I appreciate some rolls might not be as varied, however there are plenty of opportunities to progress and find new challenges within SGN.     Change can bring worry, but it is better to view change as an opportunity.

    Advice to Management

    I think that our preparations for the future are quite conservative. With "net-zero" on the horizon I think we need to take a more radical approach especially when taking into account the age of an asset.

    Always get paid on time. Good pension.

    Cons

    Unsociable hours which pay doesn’t reflect. Managers bully people, false promises. Company constantly looking at ways to cut pay. Employees treated differently. Engineers doing the same job get paid less than others. Company can’t retain their staff. 80% of engineers are not happy. We all come to work to make a living and pay the bills yet pay is poor and not had a pay rise in years yet SGN expect you to work 15-16...

    Advice to Management

    Pay your engineers the same money as your taking new starters on. Praise your engineers more for doing a good job. Sort your IT out. Makes day to day life hard having tablets that constantly fail. Improve morale of your engineers and you’ll get a better job out of them.

    I joined SGN in late January. In my training team we had three people, myself included. On our first day, one of our other new starters mentioned that she rarely (very rarely) had a smell of gas in her garage. Our trainer told her that she should get one of the engineers to attend. The next day, the trainer asked her if she had done this - namely, called in during her free time outside of work and booked in for work....

    I have been working at SGN full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Steady income. Great people doing the day to day jobs.

    Cons

    Bullying management culture. Too many external people with non industry expience taken on in senior jobs. This means little internal progression for existing employees unless you know the right people. As SGN has no local competitors there is no possibility for anyone leaving SGN to go work with a rival company in their home county. This leaves employees feeling trapped.

    Advice to Management

    SGN is like a runaway train with no driver. The momentum of how things used to be done is carrying SGN forward. SGN is not fit for purpose never mind the future.
