I worked at SAIT Polytechnic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, excellent co-workers.

    Cons

Leadership and management spend little time supporting your development or advancement. They make this claim repeatedly, then you have no opportunity to develop your skills or attend training or seminars as you are constantly swamped doing the management team’s work. Lots of criticism, very little of it constructive.

    Advice to Management

You need to hire leaders, not micromanagement. You hire people based on their ability and merit, it’s very difficult to strive in an environment that smothers you.

I worked at SAIT Polytechnic full-time

    Pros

The enthusiasm of many employees of during what is best for the students, community, and partners is outstanding.

    Cons

Core principles are not practiced by senior leadership

    Advice to Management

Practice what is expected of the employees, you set the baseline for all of SAIT.

I worked at SAIT Polytechnic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Non union employees get 10 flex days off a year
Time off during Christmas (approx the 25-Jan 6), pending when the stats fall. But still!
Start off with 4 weeks of vacation
The majority of the benefits kick in almost immediately, with a taxable or healthcare spending account
    Free courses!
Great access to food made by the students
Free access to the library, gym and onsite clinic
Free dental work if you are willing to be practiced on by the students
    Free swag!

    Cons

    No bonuses - government funding
    No increases - government freeze
Lack of opportunity to move up
Everything takes forever to see any progress
SAIT has a culture of over-consulting
Lots of layers of approvals needed
OT is rarely paid out to salaried non union staff
Conferences and seminars are hard to get approved

    Advice to Management

Trust in your people, make the decision making process easier, recognize your people more through events that MATTER to them, offer more opportunities to move up the company than you have to become a Dean or AC.

    Pros

You can get a cheaper train pass. Other than that it's a black hole your career will not be able to make it back from

    Cons

The management here is atrocious. When multiple complaints have been made against a manager saying they abuse staff that manager is still retained? Why? Lots of times I'm not even given work to do. I literally have 15 minutes of work some days, I spend the rest of my time looking busy. I've told my manager that there is no work but her response is that there's tons

    Advice to Management

Really consider whether you need to hire for something before you create a position. Fire managers who repeatedly abuse staff
