    Pros

The people here are so accepting and supportive and will help you out and explain things you don’t understand without judgement.

Things are changing and engineers are leaving

Jan 14, 2021 - Senior Backend Software Engineer in Austin, TX

    Pros

The company has been very flexible during the pandemic and we still have some good people that started few years ago.

    Cons

The CEO and CTO were removed after being acquired by a previous company - we recently moved under a new company and things are getting worse. The engineering side is the most impacted at this point since all of the positions under the temporary engineering head are being shifted towards the office in India.

    Good learning experience.

    Pros

There are many able people there who are exceedingly good to work with.

    Cons

Company has gone through major transition as part of Harland-Clarke catalogue. The fact that the business itself has been changing significantly has not made that easier.

Great place, but losing all engineering

Oct 3, 2019 - Software Engineer in Austin, TX

    Pros

    - Really great pay - Really great benefits (free lunch, snacks, fridges always full of beer/wine, amazing facilities) - A lot of really smart, kind, helpful people work here

    Cons

    - So much attrition from engineers (over the last year, probably 40% of eng staff left) - Upper Eng Management (VPs and CTO) don't seem to care about keeping engineers or backfilling positions - New initiatives keep starting even though there is not enough staff to maintain current initiatives/projects

It WAS a great place to work

    Pros

They compensate employees really well. Having catered lunches was nice. I learned a ton there and worked with some great people before they left.

    Cons

The senior management made a lot of big bets that never paid off. There has been tons of turnover, those who stayed got promoted, even if they weren't qualified to perform the task. They treat their product managers poorly, give them little leeway to make meaningful change. Office politics were rampant if you wanted to change anything you had to back channel everything, have meetings before meetings. Decisions were not made in meetings, all discussion in meetings was futile, it was always a formality. Managers would tell you what you wanted to hear, then renege on it later. Life at RetailMeNot evolved to process without purpose, and became a total drag.

Skeleton crews are running RMN Engineering

    Pros

Free parking at Frost Bank Free breakfast on Mondays and Fridays Free lunch every day except Wednesdays Free snacks and drinks Free coffee at the coffee bar Reimbursed for phone bill and gym bill Free wellness/exercise classes Great culture and values Friendly coworkers Diverse RxSaver is growing rapidly and is an exciting space to be in

    Cons

"Unlimited PTO" when you're being recruited, "Flexible" PTO once you actually start Relatively recent layoffs No longer a company where engineering is valued Engineers are leaving in frightening numbers, and leadership does not prioritize backfilling positions, resulting in significant loss of knowledge. Some teams are down to a single developer. Projects are being moved to teams who have no idea how to support them. The company was not willing to sacrifice short-term revenue for long-term growth and success back when we had the personnel to handle it, now teams are just trying to get out of maintenance and support mode. A lot of friction when onboarding new engineers There used to be a Wednesday work from home policy that was eliminated early this year. The number of summer interns has decreased this year from the previous year.

    Engineers are leaving

    May 28, 2019 - Software Engineer

    Pros

Free lunch Nice office space and coffee bar Austin Downtown Co-workers are nice

    Cons

Due to culture change since new CTO come, 30-40% of engineers have left, including senior, staff and principal. It’s hard to be not impacted. And the hiring is never fast enough to backfill those positions. Future product is a big uncertainty. They decided to deliver new experience from scratch (since the main app become hard to maintain after losing all those senior mobile engineers). It is said that researches had been done before the decision, but no support data is shared. Since CTO cancelled WFH Wednesday, it is said new WFH policy will be made, which never happens (or at least didn’t happen before I leave). Compensation was good when you onboard as an entry level, but the growth is small when you get promoted to higher level. It was a great place to work, but not anymore.
