There is a partner at my firm who is a rainmaker, has big name clients, and is not an equity partner. It doesn’t make sense to me. Why might that be?

To partners: how hard is it for an equity partner to actually get fired? Assume someone we’ll regarded but who isn’t a rainmaker because rainmakers I’d imagine may be held to a totally different standard (eg, may not matter if rainmaker bills tons of hours).

Rainmaker who’s clowning a mid-level here. You’ll never believe it: we got this kid associate to join a 9am call on a Saturday and discussed leveraging the juniors more. I’ve never seen an associate squirm so badly! Anyway can’t wait until my usual senior associate minion is back, then we can stealth this poser and get back to business.

This rainmaker partner in my group has decided that I have three or four more years of experience than I actually do, because he doesn’t remember who any of the peons are. That said, dropping his name allows you to get out of basically anything on any other matter, so I’m riding this wave as long as I can. One of his other pets is gone for a couple weeks; when he gets back I’m sure he’ll remind Rainmaker of my actual class year, lol. Until then, I’m low key catfishing the dude and I’m not sorry
