I worked at Rackspace full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Still a high paying job for people living in the San Antonio area and depending on your position you have a lot of opportunities

    Cons

The apollo group is laying off firing or converting employees (developers) into contractors as they try to make the company appear profitable as they intend to go public again with the company. IE don't expect the company to last.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic in your goals. For example setting double digit growth goals with mere hand waving explaintions on execution of those goals is raising a lot of doubts amoung long time employees who have heard all this before. In short no one trusts the direction the company is moving in or leadership decisions from the SLT to middle management.

    I worked at Rackspace

    Pros

Great culture and a number of world class developers, designers, managers, and teams there that really pushed me professionally and who were truly a joy to work with. Depending on your team, Rackspace has a great remote-friendly culture as well. They have done a good job of recruiting talent and have nationally competitive benefits/pay.

    Cons

Depending on the organization within the company, women developers have few (or sometimes no) peers. Career paths are pretty rigidly defined, and if you don't fit easily into a certain box and happen to belong to a marginalized group, chances are that opportunities won't be created for you the way they are for your peers. When management expected me to take on management duties without a raise or title in an... environment that was rife with political battles, I decided I'd do better to grow my career elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Help teams move in a common direction. Too often I worked on teams who, though not in overt or direct competition with each other, were working on projects with competing objectives. Duplicate work, lack of shared strategy and vision, and squabbling among middle management contributed to a lot of pain and frustration for talented team members when I was there.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fellow coworkers still exhibit the altruism that the made the company great when I started working here back in 9 years ago. Salary is high for the San Antonio area. Your exposed to a lot of technical problems to solve.

    Cons

The company did go through a culture shock with the recent buyout but culture is starting to improve as the more jaded employees are finding employment else where.

    Advice to Management

make sound decisions and be more cohesive. In the past SLT has been known to have competing goals and interests in its members which makes a lot of SLT decisions appear to be knee jerkish to employees that don't realize that SLT often doesn't operate as a heterogeneous unit. And be more aware of the risks with the larger decisions.

"One of the best companies in San Antonio"

I have been working at Rackspace full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Best company in San Antonio to work for in the IT field with the exception of USAA(if your ok with its management structure). While salaries are considered somewhat lower then the industry average those salaries are still much higher then your typical office work in this city. Much higher then say a senior accountant position in the same city. More flexible work hours. Employees allowed to work from home(Hopefully... this doesn't erode Rackspaces diminishing work ethic though)

    Cons

Company morale has been in a downward spiral within the last year and most top performers have already left the company. This was once a really great place to work due to the dedication of its workforce but with moral down it seems no one is helping their peers or their customer base like they did in the past. If your native to San Antonio you will most likely be undercut in the job offer as higher salaries are... researved for out of state hires who have not realized the cost of living drop in san antonio.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep your top employees around. a 20% turnover rate is not healthy especially on your high end employees. The paid sabbatical should probably been phased out gradually rather then being a total shock to 7 year rackers that were just months away from earning it. The CEO should probably be more careful in endorsing Amazon's employment policies (Employee's at amazon tend to eat each other due to stacked... ranking) as a way to raise moral as most Rackers are adverse to Amazon policies(They were our biggest competitor after all ) , while a small naive few are now even considering employment at Amazon now due to this pep talk.

    Pros

Good professionals, still signs of the great old culture, good company for career start

    Cons

Salaries are Under market average. Employes aren't longer the most important asset

    Advice to Management

Middle management and product managers in majority need cutting. Absolute dead weight

    Pros

Sharp employees. Crazy enthusiasm about their job. Physical office is above average but not the theme park it claims to be.

    Cons

Boring office — everyone is heads down. Very quiet. Uncomfortable chairs.
