Great Promise, Poor Leadership

Pros

Assurance allowed fully remote work, had generous compensation, and was relatively current with their technology and practices.

Cons

Senior leaders in data science and engineering acting like anything but leaders and "humble collaborators". A clique based around getting things done and contribution to the business, even though there was only one profitable quarter under their watch. They've bullied colleagues, subordinates, and other departments alike behind their backs. This made for an extremely toxic work environment for one to join let alone be successful in.

Pros

Assurance insists on all engineers, PMs, and Data Scientists understanding and being close to the business. This provides a lot of great opportunity to collaborate closely with our business partners and drive an enormous amount of impact. It also allows for relatively junior technology folks to be in a position where they are offering advice and solutions to SVPs across the organization. Assurance insists on strong data literacy, and a well written data analysis can often lead to a conversation with our CEO (who is our former Chief Data Scientist), which allows lots of Individual Contributors having enormous impact on company strategy.

Cons

Because Assurance wants all of our developers to be close to the business, it can be stressful at times, as we're not an insulated from the day to day as you might be elsewhere. It allows for huge impact, but can come at a cost (like anything though?) If you are not a good communicator, you will not be able to have as much impact here.
