    Pros

Great workplace culture, tons of flexibility, and closeness among employees. Conducive to a great work environment. Had a wonderful supervisor.

    Cons

The year-end period calls for long, stressful hours for a few months, but it is made up for by the lower stress and flexibility of the rest of the year.

I have been working at PartnerRe part-time

    Pros

Medium sized company with some interesting work and opportunities. International company with many different cultures.

    Cons

Boys' club culture with limited accountability; no strong leaders with clear and inspiring vision.

    Advice to Management

Start hiring/promoting technical people without people management skills. Stop asking us to give feedback on the culture when you don't actually want to listen.

    Pros

Interesting business with very good compensation that is being reduce under private ownership. International culture with fundamentally good people.

    Cons

Technically good management team but most with appalling people management and communication skills as well as lack of willingness to make decisions and take responsibilities. Limited career development paths. Team work not valued.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach, if you really want the company to have the culture and values you believe are fundamental to the future of the company.

I worked at PartnerRe full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had a great culture when I was there - smart, hard working people trying to do the right thing.

    Cons

Protracted takeover battle cost the company some good people, and created some ill will.

    Pros

Strong reinsurance company with much room for growth. Operated at a high level and but made the work environment relaxing. Very generous to employees with picnics and employee social happy hours.

    Cons

Management didn't promote growth or promotions within departments. Seemed almost too relaxed rather than helping other get to next level.

    Advice to Management

Help promote others for growth within the company. Manage better training functions to help new hire's understand the industry and how they can benefit from it.

I have been working at PartnerRe (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great location, great facilities

    Cons

This was probably once the best company I had ever worked for. But this went downhill with a change of CEO and a cost cutting program. Now we are in the process of a merger where despite the hard work in cost savings money seems to be of no object and the Board is representing only their interests. The result is that about 70% of the normal workers are open for new opportunities
A middle management layer that neither have technical skills or management skills and who’s purpose seems to be to add cement into any process of change

    Advice to Management

Look carefully at your middle management and ask what have you done to further the career of the people that report to you. Then use this as the basis of where to slice.
