I have been working at PPD full-time

    Pros

The company name value is pretty good, and the salary is not that bad.

    Cons

The company makes you super busy, and work overtime. (But no compensation for that.) There are so many communication chain, so it makes workflow so slow.

    Pros

    Satisfactory pay. Work from home.

    Cons

I started as a Sr. CRA in a trial that's already ongoing. Study Manager and Project Manager provided minimal study training. Much of my work depended on my own self-study on the ever-changing protocol and reporting procedures. I took over sites from a former CRAs whom was much complained by the study coordinators and PIs. So starting from Day 1 I had to clear all the backlog left by the former CRA (unresolved queries and SAEs). The project team never addressed the sites' complaint. Study Manager was only responsive when Project Manager was copied in the email. Very badly organized project team.

I worked at PPD full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is pretty good. Great co-workers, great team leader. Good office space. Good salary. Awesome that they hire fresh out of college grads.

    Cons

Management can sometimes be unfair in who they promote. Your entire future career is in the hands of one person. Job security is lacking. I don’t recommend being in the CRC position for more than a year (max two) because of the huge (and often boring) workload. During the study, everything is dependent on you so even if you make a small mistake, you will be blamed harshly. Makes sense for issues regarding patient safety and data, but otherwise small irrelevant issues shouldn’t be a huge deal as they often make it out to be. There isn’t much advancement other than being a research team leader which will require you to work almost 24/7. This position is generally not worth it and I recommend being a clinical data associate at PPD instead. That is the best entry level job position in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

Help the teams manage the workload better or work on hiring more people. Take care of your employees who are talented and care a lot about their work. Don’t let them get burned out and then complain that they are not working hard enough . A lot of the processes at the clinic are not efficient and end up taking more time. Simplify processes and distribute the tasks better. Have better operating systems so literally everything is not dependent on email. Fix the printers so they actually work.
