I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Development focused. Steep learning curve. Good support network

    Cons

Promotion cycle can be quite slow with mid-year promotions being awarded by exception only. This means if your business area in under plan in terms of profitability it can be difficult to move up when you're ready.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fair pay for sector but relies heavily on bonus which can be difficult to achieve if unutilised due to no fault of your own.

    Cons

Top level managers are almost unknown to staff. Work is very much on a feed and famine basis. Utilisation does not encourage fairness.

    Advice to Management

Need to totally rethink how the company operates, and review why people are leaving in droves.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great smart people, motivated consultants. Unfortunately smart partners that they bring in, end up failing or leaving because the antiquated culture allows for complacency

    Cons

Smart people are frustrated with the paternalistic and out date view the UK has about consulting in the US

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your competitors do, if you could simply operate that way, you'd have a better business

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the people are great, intelligent. There is flexibility with work schedule which is a plus. Vacation plan is fair

    Cons

Offices are unprofessional. There are no receptionists, very little office management. They got rid of most of IT so good luck getting help if you need technical assistance. Corporate is completely unresponsive. It took weeks to get a payroll issue sorted. Because, oh yeah, they got rid of local payroll too. Comes across like they are getting ready to sell. Frustrating environment

    Pros

The people are fantastic, the work is varied, clients are challenging and rightfully so, the Learning Academy is brilliant and you will get to work on projects that are cutting edge. There will always be someone at PA that knows the answer to a question that is troubling you - just ask.

    Cons

Communication could be better, bonus needs to be shared better.

    Advice to Management

Sort out the infrastructure - do unto us as you would do for clients!

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid pipeline of contracts, due to 70 years' history in business
R&D and Tech center, unusually advanced for a consulting company

    Cons

Old school when it comes to managerial practices

    Advice to Management

Break the rule that only Partners and MCs can sell new projects. Everybody should be taught to sell new projects from the beginning of their careers.
