I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exciting projects shaping future technologies, products and business models. Entrepreneurial and network based organisation. Brilliant people, often world class. The global technology centre is truly unique - we really create unique inventions shaping entire industries, develop and build world first devices and machines.

    Cons

Innovation culture concentrated in one area of the business, suboptimal travel policy for international flights, relatively low salaries, relatively unknown brand. Uncertainty for future developments and strategy.

    Advice to Management

Truly integrate technology and innovation cross all services and sectors. This is a key differentiator which could be developed and used more across the company. Reduce the amount and increase the quality of the internal change initiatives. Clarify future strategy and direction.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people here are generally legitimate experts in their fields. At most levels the employees need to work collaboratively, so there is a collegial atmosphere. Also, there is a fair degree of autonomy, so it's possible to migrate to projects that one might find interesting.

    Cons

The "partner-as-business-unit" model creates a number of perverse incentives. Unlike law firms where billable hours are the target, here it's project profitability. As a result, there can be pressure not to bill hours, but to do the work anyway.

    Advice to Management

Rethink the metrics that are used to judge people to capture the true costs of a project (and of selling a project!). Also, recognise that current incentives do not encourage employees to stretch to new (risky) business areas or to large projects for which extensive time may be spent on bids.

I worked at PA Consulting Group (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some excellent and very bright and dedicated people with whom to work

    Cons

Spends heaps of money to recruit people then does very little to mentor or train them. Makes people feel like failures then criticises them for not succeeding. No longer a "people" based organisation

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - interesting diverse people
    - several opportunities for training
    - freedom to do what you want ...if it sells

    Cons

    - glorified body shop at best
    - lack of a long term strategy in favour of an opportunistic approach in chasing opportunities and clients.
    - current commission scheme does not promote collaborations resulting in a competitive enviroment which does not feel justified
    - relying too much on the pubblic sector and on existing clients

    Advice to Management

They should address all above cons. However, given the recent aquisition, I have my doubts Pa has actually much freedom left.

    Pros

    Helpful and friendly collegues.
    Entreprenurial environment.
    Career opportunities including transfers.
Good balance between risk and stability.
    Senior mentoring to junior collegues.
    Compensation.

    Cons

Need for more focus on fewer services and sectors where there is less critical mass than in the uk.
Dare to invest in order to grow. Hire more people. There are more than enough highly qualified applicants.

    Advice to Management

Need for more focus on fewer services and sectors where there is less critical mass than in the uk.

    Cons

Salariues not great. Unclear performance system. Some partner behaviours poor

    Pros

Perfect size; big enough to provide global interesting career opportunities; small enough to make you feel like an individual and that you can progress your career accordingly.
Carlyle investment in 2015 has helped to supercharge the management strategy - real buzz about the firm.

    Cons

Brand is less well known than some of our competitors and so we need to explain who are to new clients.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be proud of the brilliant firm that we have all created and continue to push our brand globally. Some great leaders in the firm - let's celebrate them
