I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Development focused. Steep learning curve. Good support network

    Cons

Promotion cycle can be quite slow with mid-year promotions being awarded by exception only. This means if your business area in under plan in terms of profitability it can be difficult to move up when you're ready.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting and varied range of projects. The staff are personable and extremely competent. The workplace is young and there is a good camaraderie between employees. Strong focus on personal/career development. Lots of flexibility to choose your areas of focus/interest.

    Cons

Compensation is somewhat low relative to the high workload.
Leadership often shows a limited sensitivity to work-life balance in terms of workflow management.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Some good benefits but these are at the expense of an average salary. Nice location and varied work if you can get exposure to it.

    Cons

Long hours expected by some managers. Difficult to progress if in "wrong" department. Consultant style of work isn't right for some roles, and makes it difficult to obtain utilisation. Lack of a family feel, and more dog-eat-dog.

    Advice to Management

Structure the salary and bonus more fairly. PC and above seem to take the majority of the salary pot. Partners need to learn the value of a verbal "thanks"

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice and talented people to work with. Good variety and interesting projects. Compensation is competitive.

    Cons

Career progression can be slow if not working with the right people.
Teamwork is not always part of the mix, and few people will work longer than the majority to deliver on projects without any specific reward.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of autonomy and responsibility, can get some interesting work where you learn lots but often have to seek this out yourself. Feel the company is much better suited to experienced hires who will be able to add value on client assignments from previous experience. The people are generally very nice and down to earth across the company.

    Cons

Training and structured development for junior staff straight out of university is random or non-existent. Junior staff tend to do endless project management type work.

    Advice to Management

Better, more structured development for more junior staff. Decide on what is premium consulting and what is not, our day rates end up meaning we sell average work at very high prices.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Good when you start, depends who is your line manager and what partner you fall under.

    Cons

Going down hill slowly, focus is lost

    Advice to Management

Focus on the staff you already have and training, sort out the culture of senior management. They are driven by the wrong things!
