I worked at P&O Cruises for more than a year

    Pros

Living and breathing the lavish lifestyle of working on a luxury cruise ship with the added benefits of spacious accommodation (depends on job title), dining in the restaurants or mess hall at certain times, enjoying the social aspect of the crew bar after work. I worked as a photographer, which is straining as you work long hours EG: 6-3 or 3-12 or some times even both. You are constantly on your feet and have a job to do which is a positive as you are never bored. Whether you are manning the unit, shooting a varied amount of shoots, printing or filling the walls you've never got nothing to do. Travelling is the best pro as you are always looking forward to visiting new places or relaxing in familiar bars and beaches. There's always opportunity for you to be a tour rep and go out with the passengers on tours and experience different things.

    Cons

You are always at work and always have to have a smile on your face even if you are not feeling 100%. Routine safety checks on a weekly basis become an annoyance especially dealing with unruly passengers at an early hour. Recycled cabin air can become a problem if you are asthmatic or have a breathing problem as you are slowly breathing in dust. Extensively long hours can drain you especially when it is a party night and you have an early shift the following morning. Time management is key! The ever changing time can be tricky to over come at first but you soon develop a habit of changing the hour hand frequently. Drunken passengers can be a pain when you are working as things can unexpectedly go from good to bad. Getting attached to passengers is good as you build rapport with the family which makes great holiday memories and even friendships, but be warned as the older generation tend to kick the bucket when in hot countries either due to the weather, accidents or the very rare suicide. Money is sparse, at the end of a cruise/ month don't expect a massive pay slip (varies on job position) as most job roles are commission only.

I worked at P&O Cruises for more than a year

    Pros

Unbelievable experiences, unique life, great way to travel. Everyone is super friendly and makes every day enjoyable. Guests are pretty cool too.

    Cons

Long hours, no overtime, no benefits, no days off... but that's the norm for the industry and everyone is doing the same thing. No control over your own life, day to day and long term.
