I worked at Ontario Power Generation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary, pension If you're unionized, good life work balance.

    Cons

Toxic environment at all levels of the company, including some senior executives (some areas more than others) . I was treated with vulgarity by a senior executive several times and I was harassed by him and a VP. I ended up leaving the company and the only reason I didn't sue them was because I didnt want my name to be in the news! Unions run the show at OPG and good union employees end up working for the lazy ones. Aggressive culture, people are just angry all the time for no reason. People over-react and exaggerate things and many take pleasure at putting down others.

I have been working at Ontario Power Generation full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits and strong job protection for unionized jobs

    Cons

Limited opportunities for financial recognition of good work lead to disengagement when other people get the same compensation for doing the bare minimum. Company is in long term downsize.

I have been working at Ontario Power Generation for less than a year

    Pros

-People are approachable -You can feel free to speak up and let your thoughts be known/addressed -People are happy to help you learn and answer questions -People collaborate without issues -Decent tasting cafeteria food but quantity isnt the greatest per plate -Short work day, no take home, work. Incredibly different life experience compared to studying and working on school projects all day. So freeing

    Cons

-The beureaucratic red tape is stifling. It can be very confining to have everything you do be done according to this or that procedure. -The workplace can be so easy going that it is hard to lose ones drive, and focus and will to work hard. You have to put effort into chasing challenges and push for more. The status quo is that you can float along without being nudged to make a difference . Uninspiring, -Bland office space -The culture is very heavyset and hard to change, often a culture of people who have worked within the confines of government bureaucracy so long that they may have forgotten, or never have learned, what its like to work outside of it. People who like their safe government job with a nice pension. There is a general attitude of being very averse to risk in career chasing which is disconcerting as a student in conversation. -Union dues even though the union doesnt offer anything to students. -Can be forced into a strike position even if you dont want to be unionized with the PWU. -the high earning potential offered by great salary is throttled by low hours (35 hr work week) with basically 0 overtime for students

I worked at Ontario Power Generation

    Pros

    - Great Salary with good benefits - Easy to stand out in the company due to a lot of complacency - Good work life balance with a lot of opportunities to volunteer, play on sports teams, and get involved

I worked at Ontario Power Generation full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Unionized workers will always get a raise, excellent benefits and keep their jobs for life.

    Cons

Non-union workers get no such perks. Trend is to hire temp/contract, pay less and no benefits. Nepotism and office politics for any promotions, job openings. Bloated pay for execs and unionized employees. If they don't like you, you'll be terminated.

I worked at Ontario Power Generation

    Pros

    - great pay - great opportunities for learning and development - great supportive department - given many tasks, kept busy - many opportunities to return after graduation
