      Pros

I loved meeting the customers and their pets. Stores were full of life and bustling at times- lots of fun- lots of work!

      Cons

During the week when stores were empty- there were very few sales- and in winter snows sales were abysmal.

      Pros

Overall, a fair compensation package. Travel opportunities. Meet other hard working individuals. The training during the meetings can be very good. Flexible scheduling in that you manage your area and are held accountable for it.

      Cons

The good ole boy (girl) system rules. Different set of rules for everyone depending on the manager and who covers them. Great surface data put out by company but inside everyone is fearful for their job and stressed out. There are policies and procedures but they are just window dressing, if you are not under the wing of someone higher, your number may be up! Incapable of meeting the sales goals so it sets you up for failure. Loss of bonus for 2010 cut into many folks lifestyle. It is a sad situation in which to work.

Mars Corporation has degraded the product and disrespected the original Nutro employees.

      Pros

Hourly rate for PNS work is good. Nutro PNS at one time were far better trained than most pet store vendor reps. Not sure if that is still true. Nutro production facilities exercise good quality control.

      Cons

      1) Mars Corporate management has systematically purged the original Nutro management and denigrated the hard work and talent that built the Nutro label. Mars has shown no respect for the original Nutro people. 2) Mars Corporation does not communicate with the rank and file...there's no vertical communication in either direction. 3) Nutro isn't a distinct brand anymore..."Mars Pet Care" includes Pedigree, Little Caesars, Royal Canin, Nutro, Iams, and Eukanuba. 4) PNS work in pet stores but we are not allowed to touch any pets - no other pet store staff or vendor reps subscribe to that policy. Acknowledging someone's pet is a great way to open a conversation about pet products but Mars disallows it. It completely hamstrings the approach. Why send personnel to work in a pet store if you don't think they know how to avoid a dog bite?

A good company that is headed for trouble if they do not place people first .

      Pros

They make fine products and they pay well compared to other similar jobs

      Cons

If you are a PNS , be prepared to take on the Managers that become irritated and take it out on you when Nutro now calls the stores very often to see if you were there and on time for work . This childish behavior by the company is backfiring and damaging the Pet Nutrition Specialist , The Nutro Company , and the stores that are subjected to these stupid calls . Any other way to determine attendance would be better than the trouble they have now . This is a six year former employee has never been late much less a no show . It is an insult that they must stop or lose more people like myself .

      Great Part - Time Job

      Pros

Great Part - time job if you are free during Friday's - Mondays. You give company your preference of days you can work and they schedule you at a local Petsmart or Petco on those days. You get to work with the Pet Parents who bring their pets into the stores and you recommend food choice whether it be kibble, canned, treats and dental treats like Greenies. Company sends you a free voucher for food monthly and they have discounts on many items like your mobile phone and other items. You can demo 4-5 hours at a time usually scheduled at busy times at the store. If you follow guidelines of job description which are simple rules like calling demo in on time and showing up for work, you have NO problems.

      Cons

Can't think of any Con's due to fact you are doing something you love in working with people and having Pet Parents make the best possible choice of food for their dog or cat.

Very Satisfied. Great pay and benefits. Just don't fall out of favor with this crew.

      Pros

Excellent pay. Able to "Free-Lance" your work week, to a cetain degree. Selling extremely healthy pet food that changes Animals lives. Company car, laptop. Killer expense acct.

      Cons

Super strong pressure to hit sales goals. More than most large companies. It's "Do it or else" when goals are due. I always hit my sales goals. Seems like they always were on the 'Hunt" to fire or disipline someone. Even heard one upper management say; " It keeps all others on their toes when someone is Axed." Yes. Really .I did see some fine people who were good at what they did, get run out of town. They went on to sell against Nutro with competitors, who were happy to have them.

      Pros

Nutro was an amazing company that was bought by Mars. After Mars bought us we went through many changes. Overall they took care of people they kept and were generous to those they let go.

      Cons

Mars is a very "Northeastern" culture which didn't mesh with the Nutro "Southwestern" culture so a lot of people were let go during the transition. The Mars way is all about the position. To some degree people are cogs in a machine that they have to keep moving. Office politics, I'm not a fan but if you are, more power to you!

      Pros

Great coworkers, Superior product you can be proud to sell, Pet friendly, Flexible schedule when needed. Above average total package when it comes to non salary benefits like time off and other perks.

      Cons

Ambiguous review process. Middle management doesn't understand Mars corporate review process and associates are punished for their lack of understanding. Management will hold you back so that they don't have to replace you or will dumb down your talents so you are not desirable in a promotion. HR is full of empty promises when you seek assistance in setting your goals for the year. Management is slow year after year in passing down corporate objectives and goals so you can set yours in alignment with theirs. Performance metrics change constantly and you never know what you need to focus on improving. You have to constantly live in fear that you will be laid off under the pretension of "revitilization" aka restructure to reduce overheads.

A changing work environment with poor decisions

      Pros

It is part of the MARS group which is a fantastic company, the 5 principles when are adopted work well, pets at office add an extra atmosphere of relaxation and joy. Associates want to help as much as their own work allow them.

      Cons

Very hostile environment where there is no room for mistakes instead of creating the spaces to learn from mistakes upper management goes behind the person that made the mistake, such situation does not allow that people work freely and want to explore or learn new things because they are afraid of making mistakes, people work in a "CYA" mode.
