Good work experience if you can survive
Mar. 16, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Getting to work with and learn from brilliant engineers and scientists - Project work is very interesting and varied - Freedom to work on what you want with the managers of your choice (maybe top 1) - Work in beautiful locations across the PNW
Cons
- The lack of organizational structure means staff (including Jrs) are solely accountable for their unrealistically high workloads - leading to inevitable burnout - Sustained high workloads for years on end and Principals who encourage that intense work culture (leading by example and high/unrealistic expectations for staff to produce work under tight deadlines) - Addresses burnout by telling people to manage their stress better? - Sterile office culture (people don't really talk to each other) - Relatively low pay and meager benefits for the amount and quality of work you do (only 3 weeks of vacation for at least 10 years??) - Not very diverse, but working on it.

All about the status not about the people
Mar. 16, 2021 - Entry Level Water Resources Engineer in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Really neat river work, you get to go outside for your job and play in the stream, you’re working with some of the smartest people out there, highly respectable company.
Cons
They care more about their status than they do their employees, they hired one of the least respectable researchers to get their names out there more, the pay is lower than most companies in this field, if you don’t know how to do something they won’t teach you, if you mess up once because you’re human they’ll ridicule you and call you a screw up, they have no work life boundaries and if you complain they’ll tell you that you aren’t cut out for consulting when in fact you are and they need to learn people have needs and boundaries, mental health is talked about but not supported, they are smart people which means socially awkward folks who don’t know how to be there for you when you need them to be, you better have a masters degree or higher or they won’t even look at you the same. No diversity.
