I worked with amazing colleagues
Cons
None really. The company was absorbed by the company that acquired it, so I am no longer sure of issues.

CNOOC Aquisition
Jun. 28, 2015 - Business Analyst in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great company to work for prior to the CNOOC Acquisition. There is a lot of opportunity to move around and excel now due to many people leaving.
Cons
The working environment is no longer Canadian, many people have left and the environment is not a happy one. They do not treat their employees well aside from good pay when laid off. At the moment the environment is very hostile due to the many changes happening in the company. CNOOC has a specific way of managing things and it has been very apparent throughout the last 2-3 years.

Pros
Employees grandfathered into the Old DB pension have a good pension, savings and benefits. New Employees get a substantially reduced plans
Cons
Nexen is no longer a good Employer. Safety is an espoused value until it costs a dollar. Industrial close calls and accidents due partly to reduced staffing. Safety policies are written strongly but bypassed if workflow slows. During the Fort McMurray fires Nexen Employee Families fleeing North stopping at Long Lake were told to go somewhere else. Peers who were laid off were not treated with respect and Nexen did nothing to save jobs and in fact layed off more than we could handle and are re-hiring positions; unnecessarily, disruptive to Employees.

Pros
Decent pay, Nice building, generally well meaning company, but...
Cons
The US version of this company is kind of on the ropes. Loosing a lot of staff, for a variety of pretty good reasons, and though they are no longer an immediate extension of the canadian way, it still ends up being the default management style. I dont think it is unfair to say this companies future is definitely a question mark, a previous poster called it a "Bright Future" and I hope for the sake of those who remain that is true, but that was not the consensus opinion of the average individual when I was there. I would strongly suggest you ask a lot of questions at the interview about staffing, future, scope. The good news is that all of this bodes well for negotiating your pay. Trust me, they need you, just dont think you are going to retire here.
