Pros
Nexen has a lot of good people. There are a lot of long-term employees there, those with 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of experience. The benefits package is very good.
Cons
These days (2014) Nexen = change. After the CNOOC acquisition a great number of employees left of their own accord, with a large chunk out of middle and upper management. Since then there have been significant layoffs. As a result reporting structures are completely turned around and no one really knows what's going on. Morale is very low. HR is currently a bull in a china shop, and showing very little sympathy for valid concerns. I had some integrity concerns that arose prior to my termination.

Senior Application Developer
Jan. 2, 2015 - Senior Applications Developer in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Large company so as always, one's opinion depends on which group one is working for. For me... Nexen treated contractors much like employees offering many benefits normall reserved for employees such as concierge services, access to health facility (which is one of the best centers in Calgary) and matching charity donations. Lots of smart good people to work with there and they were really open to my suggestions and allowed me to be pretty flexible in my design and framework choices.
Cons
Currently they are going through some major company wide re-org and as such, the place is a bit unorganized. Given some time I think they have potential if the right senior managers in put in place.

Cons
i can't think of anything negative to say - i had a terrible manager for a short time but ended up working for a fantastic manager after a few months.

-It's a pay cheque -somewhat stable work as oil recovers -decent work life balance -some good people in the work force
Cons
-very cheap company -they care last about employees -safety and emergency services has taken huge cuts to save money. -considering 2 people died from an explosion that they won't seem to take responsibility for Safety should be a priority.

Too much control by support services. Not enough focus on achieving results related to the business vs. side projects of support groups. Problems are not soley due to new owners.
