I worked at NAV Canada full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and compensation plan for all employees

    Cons

    No room for advancement
HQ building is dated and overcrowded for number of employees the house

NAV boasts that it is the best place to work. However you can't buy happiness in the workplace with income/benefits alone. Employees are overworked with very little support. Aviation is a 24 hour operation, therefore you are expected to be checking your emails and answering calls off hours. Very political environment. I witnessed a lot of backstabbing and bullying in the workplace, and employees going on sick leave to avoid management and lack of support in addressing workplace harassment. I was on the brink of a burnout when I finally found a new job. Took a job paying less money, however I am much happier at work.

    Advice to Management

    Too many to mention.

    Advice to Management

Corporate services (not air traffic control towers) is 30 years behind management practices because the boomers who came over from Transport Canada 20 YEARS AGO never left.

    Not innovative.

Act dumb and agree with your boss.

Jobs are silos filled with useless grain.

But hey! Great "golden handshake"! So if you want to be somewhere to watch Father Time come and go by the time you're 75... not too bad.

If you have an education, dreams, and ambitions, and want to make an impact and change the world... unordinary, boring, and corporate objectives are known to be achievable in advance.

Not scientific or bottom up culture; but top down and lazy; not entrepreneurial in other words.

I have been working at NAV Canada full-time

    Pros

Great pay, just ok benefits, great coworkers, interesting work, variety, company has deep pockets for catered lunches, retreats, external contractors, etc. Lots of room for advancement (large company). Managers slowly changing but it is a slow process from the old school. CEO seems to have the right idea and has brought in a lot of good changes in a few years.

    Cons

If you are non-unionized (they call it management, even if you are not a manager), you can expect uncompensated, unlimited mandatory overtime to be forced on you. Lots of people burn out at the lower levels. The work is very demanding. Only people who work nights and weekends on end get ahead. Vacation time lags way behind other companies. For all the talk about diversity and inclusion of people with different lifestyles, this is not a great place if you have family that depends on you.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing with terms like "manager" for admins and officers. They should be paid for mandatory overtime - it is the law, after all. Diversity and inclusion also means that not everyone can work 10-12 hours per day.

    Cons

There are some managers that should probably not be managers but there are more better ones than not
