Worst Place to Work

Pros

The owners want it to look like a major engineering firm.

Cons

Awful place to work. Seems all good until the N-word is thrown around like nothing, until I opened my drawer and found newspaper clippings of terrorist attacks and finally until I was told that because of my age, they needed not to train me. Oh and until a PM stole my ideas and played it off as his own after demeaning me. The lack of diversity is STAGGERING!!

Beware!

Pros

Salaries and benefits are comparable to other engineering firms. They encourage cooperation between offices. They are a growth oriented company.

Cons

The Project managers are backward thinking; for example, I was scolded by a PM for using too many formulas in Excel. They reject new ideas and don't want to explore new software. They also nitpick small details on your time sheet and quibble about any extra expense. They don't support employees with disabilities and create reasons to fire them.

Pros

I've worked at MSA for nearly two years. Employee-friendly, inclusive organization. Works hard at communicating and engaging with staff. An emphasis on client-service and a high quality of technical product allows the firm to "fight above its weight". Good career opportunities. Sensible growth goals. Sees people, their skills and experience, and their professional reputations, as primary assets.

Cons

Struggles at times with organizational structure and business processes. Caused primarily by the change from a single to multiple regional offices. Management and ownership acknowledge the issues and are working to improve.
