Former Employee - Line Cook in Calgary, AB

I worked at Moxie’s Grill & Bar full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere Decent management* Friendly coworkers variety of different stations to work fun food to cook especially on pans and forno

    Cons

-To much rotation of head-chefs making expectations for back of house varied as well as scheduling issues from the new head chefs not knowing their employees -even if by some circumstance (grey eagle casino stealing all our cooks with better benefits) you become one of the most proficient and experienced back of house line cooks if your a summer employee your pay will be what you negotiate when your hired it... doesn't change based on performance in the 4 months.

    Advice to Management

nothing much as I don't know what causes the head chefs to shift so frequently. other than that it was a fun place to work for a few summers.

I worked at Moxie’s Grill & Bar full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    None, none, none, none, none.

    Cons

Work you to the bone with little compensation. CHEAPEST COMPANY EVER, Tom Gaglardi is worth billions but refuses to repaint/repair a lounge? This company will not pay salaries properly but will instead put every single manager into tippool. Managment taking over $1600 from every tippool is complete THEFT from the culinary employees and hostesses. One manager makes over $20k a year NON-TAXABLE from tippool. Oh and... they pay culinary uniforms out of tippool, which is 100% unethical and illegal. Then culinary staff is wondering why their portion of tippool is constantly lowering but we're not allowed to tell them? We just have to make up excuses as to why. Head office is full of ameteurs with zero humility to the constant mistakes they make. They refuse to fire anyone because they're scared of getting sued. Oh you're stealing alcohol? Sure, keep the job with no consequences. They constantly adjust hours to less than what BOH employees actually worked. THEY COMPLETELY WORK ON A SYSTEM THAT REWARDS BAD EMPLOYEES/HUMAN BEINGS. OH and they 'profile' AKA DISCRIMINATION, if you have an excellent interviewee but she is slightly overweight you better not hire her or your regionals will be very upset with you.
