I worked at Mott MacDonald full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I liked the people
    Good office location

    Cons

I have a civil design background and was hired for pipeline drafting. I was tossed to the wolves and wasn't provided any training or real support until i was finally let go a number of months later. Tough to take as i felt that with a better training i could have done very well regardless of the amount of times i asked for help or studied on my own. My manager had a civil background and was also new to pipeline and feel that i didn't get any assistance because he didn't know how to assist but rather just told people to get X work done. The entire experience was very odd.

I worked at Mott MacDonald full-time

    Pros

Great professionals, excellent ethos, stability and growth

    Cons

Marketing is not seen as a function of the business as most of the Engineers who run the business believe it's a costly overhead

    Advice to Management

Embrace change and move into the 21st century

    Pros

Large organisation with possibilities to move between sectors
    Good work/ life balance
A large amount of online training available
    Good sick leave policies

I worked at Mott MacDonald part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting projects, technology and friendly co-workers.

    Cons

Micro management, internal politics that trickles down and causes a clannish environment, bringing moral down.

    Advice to Management

Stop the recent divide and concur policy. Have confidence in the middle management and let them lead to get the job done. You have good people that are dedicated and would do much better if given the chance.

I have been working at Mott MacDonald full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Friendly and knowledgable people to learn from. Good place to start a career in engineering.

    Cons

    Average compensation.
Flow of work is VERY inconsistent. Budgets for projects are also inconsistent, and you might have to ocassionally work overtime for free just to catch the deadline.
Career progress is not very promising. Young engineers seem to be restricted to one group with little say in what projects they want and as a result don't get to learn a lot.
Even though there are lots of offices in the US under the same practice, they don't talk well with each other and don't share the workload/resources well enough (this however seem to be improving).

    Advice to Management

Focus on training young engineers with interesting, diverse projects. Stop hiring too many senior staff who need to always be put on projects before graduates. Ensure offices and different departments in the US are aware of the capabilities and practices you offer and share work load internally. Please review employee compensation.
