I have been working at Moffatt & Nichol

    Pros

Some people are nice to work with. There are some lazy people in the office that don't have the foggiest idea what they are doing.

    Cons

Very high retention. A lot of good and capable people have either quit or have been laid off. Management here is too bloody cheap. A lot of people here should have been laid off; they don't know how lucky they are.

    Former Employee - Mentor

    I worked at Moffatt & Nichol full-time

    Pros

Despite the cons outweighing the pros, there are some amazing and talented people who are great mentors and leaders. I am grateful to have had the fortunate experience to work with them. But at the end of the day, that’s not enough. I need to work for an organization that I can trust and respect overall.

    Cons

There is no real upward mobility. Management from the top sets a tone that people don’t matter. Positive leadership is not fostered. Management tends to be emotional and unprofessional. The micro-aggressive culture keeps staff fearful. The lack of education and basic awareness regarding unconscious bias plus the lack of diversity in the industry is clearly on display by management. If you are a person of color who they perceive of having financial means and expect to be compensated fairly, you are labeled greedy. If a white male does the same, they are seen as ambitious. Managers are allowed to create hostile work environments and blatantly don't believe in mentorship. They blame staff for not working hard enough instead of taking responsibility for their own poor leadership and mentorship. Some managers even punish female staff for taking maternity leave. I was convinced by the business unit leader that if we made positive changes to mentoring, systems, and procedures at a local level, we could have an impact company-wide. But Maury Povich determined that was a lie. They pretended to care about growth and diversity. But when it came down to doing the work, their ignorance, laziness and lack of leadership won. With all the incredible people they have driven away so far with their toxic culture, they have lost any progressiveness that they had been striving towards.

    I worked at Moffatt & Nichol full-time

    Pros

Talented junior and mid-level technical staff and engineers.

    Cons

A CEO that makes snap decisions based on emotion and hearsay but isn't a very good listener, surrounds himself with people who are only focused on manipulating him for their own gain, and is afraid of his CFO who regularly yells at him. It could be a great company were it not led by him. His father was far more suited to lead the company and earned the loyalty of the people who have been there for 10+ years. The next CEO is already positioning himself to take over and will most likely drive the company to ruin because he's not invested in the success of the company, just his own rise to fame. The turnover rate is extremely high in the corporate office. High turnover and constant restructuring in HR, accounting, marketing. Legal and IT seem to be the only departments that are pretty steady. Most executive, senior, and middle management are terrible leaders. There's no succession planning so as people retire, the greatness of the company goes with them. The technical staff are mostly brilliant but completely over-worked due to understaffing, so definitely no work-life balance here. They are trying to grow but have no clearly communicated plan to provide direction and steps for success. They've won contracts with agencies that require companies to provide their employees with jury duty pay, yet they don't offer that as a benefit so if you serve jury duty you have to use your PTO. After 5 years, you only get 1 additional day PTO compared to other companies that offer an additional week after 5 years.

I worked at Moffatt & Nichol full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting Projects for cool clients, Compensation at top of range.

    Cons

Leadership void at all levels. Churn in corporate departments pushes unnecessary friction to technical/engineering staff. White men in nearly all leadership positions. "Flat leadership structure" is code for no direct hierarchy and lack of decision making authority. Widely disparate work-life experiences dependent on your immediate coworkers (some of whom are excellent). Meritocracy is listed as a corporate value, yet nepotism hires seem to be everywhere.
