    Negative Outlook

I worked at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vaughan was a small office with a good "family environment" compared to the Toronto location.

    Cons

Overworked Underpaid I would stay far away from Miller Thomson - HR doesn't care about you....at the end of the day you are just a number. Pay scale at Miller Thomson is very low compared to other law firms in Toronto.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better.

I worked at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Convenient location attached to the mall and right outside the sky-train station. Gorgeous new office. Great staff - almost everyone is very friendly and easy to work with. Decent benefits.

    Cons

As with most jobs, some lawyers and staff are notably difficult. This leads to some groups/ departments being clique-y and mentally draining to be around 5 days a week. Dealing with senior management was even more difficult - lacked transparency and communication. Would have to repeat yourself multiple times and solve problems requiring their attention on your own. Zero support and 95% chance of having the blame... put on someone other than said senior management member. In person, you'll get a friendly demeanor only to observe actions that prove your value in this firm means little to nothing and that you are 100% replaceable. They have an "if you don't like it, leave" attitude. If you have an opportunity somewhere else, I would HIGHLY recommend you take it unless there is a lawyer here you REALLY want to learn from.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate the performance of senior management and whether not they are reflecting company values.

I have been working at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits are great 3 weeks vacation to start

    Cons

No leadership Do what you think you should until you get told otherwise IT department is falling apart and affecting everyone nationally, yet they keep firing people. If you work in office services your work life balance probably sucks. The only people who like their job are legal assistants if you work for a decent lawyer. Even lawyers complain they are extremely overworked and have unrealistic expectations. I... don’t know what MT is doing, but I’d love to see them in 5 years from now - wish you the best of luck !

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Miller Thomson full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits; most people are very pleasant and collaborative

    Cons

Just another anonymous employee not seen or heard

    Advice to Management

Devise a mechanism whereby staff can evaluate their managers. Ineffective managers can be very unfair to staff and no one sees it. Department staff know best what a manager does or does not do and can offer valuable input if only someone wanted to hear it.
