      Negative Outlook

I worked at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Vaughan was a small office with a good "family environment" compared to the Toronto location.

      Cons

Overworked Underpaid I would stay far away from Miller Thomson - HR doesn't care about you....at the end of the day you are just a number. Pay scale at Miller Thomson is very low compared to other law firms in Toronto.

      Advice to Management

      Treat your employees better.

I worked at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Convenient location attached to the mall and right outside the sky-train station. Gorgeous new office. Great staff - almost everyone is very friendly and easy to work with. Decent benefits.

      Cons

As with most jobs, some lawyers and staff are notably difficult. This leads to some groups/ departments being clique-y and mentally draining to be around 5 days a week. Dealing with senior management was even more difficult - lacked transparency and communication. Would have to repeat yourself multiple times and solve problems requiring their attention on your own. Zero support and 95% chance of having the blame put...

      Advice to Management

Re-evaluate the performance of senior management and whether not they are reflecting company values.

      Approves of CEO

I have been working at Miller Thomson full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Decent pay and benefits; most people are very pleasant and collaborative

      Cons

Just another anonymous employee not seen or heard

      Advice to Management

Devise a mechanism whereby staff can evaluate their managers. Ineffective managers can be very unfair to staff and no one sees it. Department staff know best what a manager does or does not do and can offer valuable input if only someone wanted to hear it.

      Pros

      Pay is higher than average

      Cons

Not much room for advancement. Support staff gets walked on all the time. When the partners are told. The response is "very concerning" but in actuality. no one really cares.

I have been working at Miller Thomson full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Benefits. Location to Transit. Great View. Sit/Stand Desk

      Cons

Some questionable support staff hires, borderline bullying, especially in the managing partner's department. Support staff plays into hierarchy so when the managing partner's real estate long-term support staff don't want to do certain things, like billing or sending mail, they farm it to junior support staff. As a result, there are no opportunities to learn, to grow or to even feel like you are appreciated. Worse...

      Advice to Management

Hierarchy is a must in law firms, however make sure support staff don't abuse their powers all the time and pawn off work. If the managing partner opens his eyes, he'll realize how disastrously low moral in his office is.

I worked at Miller Thomson full-time

      Pros

Value firm name to resume, nothing else

      Cons

HR is the biggest downfall there. From hiring to support, they don't care about employee needs, ignore staff concerns, overworked staff, CONSTANT false promises, low pay

      Advice to Management

Learn to care about your staff, lawyers are getting affected by it
