      Cons

Work is plentiful and demanding, so special attention required for work life balance. Difficulty getting promoted rapidly, patience in this regard required.

      Mercer

Currently working in the Career Rewards practice at Mercer and looking to expand into more human capital consulting outside of comp consulting and total rewards. I'll likely be looking to apply in ~6 months! Which consulting companies would you all recommend looking at for the most well-rounded / growth-focused Human Capital practices? I want to stay in consulting for a while, so sustainable career growth is important to me.

      Pros

      - If you are interested in HR and compensation, you will learn so much during your first year here - Mercer will pay for a professional designation (CHRP, CCP) - Good exposure to different clients and different industries - Interesting work: consists of market benchmarking, executive benchmarking, executive compensation, pay equity, job evaluations, etc. - People are very nice and professional - Stock options are good (you can only start getting them after 2 years)

      Cons

      - Long hours, not a great work-life balance - Can get very overwhelming and stressful at times - Busy season is September-December - Big disconnect between senior leadership and employees

      Would not recommend

      Pros

      - Close knit team - Work with really big, interesting clients - Learn tough data skills - Quick career progression

      Cons

      - Awful culture - Very repetitive work - Poor integrity from management - Wins work from clients by promising unrealistic project hours/budget then putting pressure on team to stay within budget - Business needs always placed over employee growth/development/learning - No value placed on work life balance - Very political - No transparency with employees - Evaluated based on ability to work the max number of billable hours

Great learning, not a culture for everyone

      Pros

Great learning opportunities and exposure to interesting client challenges; the chance to really make your work "your own", but looking for and asking for opportunities

      Cons

Competitive culture where you don't necessarily feel like your managers have your back; sometimes inconsistent messaging from leadership when it comes to focusing on billable hours over work-life balance
