I have been working at McGill University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice, young spirited team as you get to work alongside master and phd students. Great exchange of helpful and enlightening discussions. If the GPA score is perfect, there's lots of different funding opportunities. In close proximity to everything, right at Downtown Montreal.

    Cons

Really depends on your professor. A lot of freedom may also mean sometimes lack of leadership from your supervisor, which can mean that you're completely by your own.

Often luck of collaborations within the group or department. This may result in repetitive work among colleagues who may sit just two meters away from each other.

I worked at McGill University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stimulating research environment, flexible hours, opportunities to publish

    Cons

Despite being a full-time research assistant for over 1.5 years, it was still a casual position so there were no benefits and also meant I did not qualify for discounts or 'perks' for McGill staff.

In addition, work conditions and pay vary enormously by supervisor.
