I worked at Marks & Spencer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of social gatherings ! Made lots of friends

    Cons

They treat there staff like dirt ! I worked on ladies fashions for 13 years and then I found out I was pregnant with my first child and because I couldn't do a 7am start because of morning sickness they pup me on foods to work ! They left me standing on an express till for 37 hours a week most of my days were 8 hours long and I did have a 10 hour shift !!! I didn't even get a chair to sit down on ! Had to fight to get my extra breaks that I was entitled to ! The mangers have not got a clue in how the store is run ! One manager in the store I worked was a bully and if she didn't like you then she would make your life he'll! ! She picked on one girl so much she left !!

    Advice to Management

If you are reading this then don't expect the staff to do the job of 3 people !! Treat them with respect as there the ones who are running your store and no what can be done ! There the ones who no what customers want !

    Pros

Good company to work for, good benefits such as childcare vouchers, perks to lots of things like restaurant vouchers and holidays. Increased holiday allowance after 2 years and holiday exchange scheme.

    Cons

Not much route for career progression where I am due to roles being based in London.

I worked at Marks & Spencer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really friendly team and supportive managers. They were flexible with changing shifts and working extra hours.

    Cons

I had to work every weekend initially which was not ideal. Also had to start on temporary contracts which were renewed every few months. Often not told until a week before whether you were getting kept on.

I have been working at Marks & Spencer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    + Flexible with working hours
    + Positive atmosphere
+ Friendly colleagues, including section and commercial managers
    + Varied role
+ Potential to progress from within if you're motivated enough to do it
    + Support from managers
+ Fast-paced sales environment is exciting

    Cons

    - Have to work weekends
    - Some colleagues/managers are extremely condescending
    - Some aspects of the role can be montonous and boring if you don't secure yourself different tasks for the day
    - Sometimes rushed to complete a task then criticised for your performance

    Advice to Management

Give enough time for customer assistants to complete their allocated tasks and be more understanding if their performance isn't 100%, as quite often their workload is too heavy.
