Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

Fully remote org, combined with IRL office spaces in 3 cities Employees encouraged to take risks and try out new ideas Rapid upward mobility for high performers Time and money budgeted for personal growth and learning Culture of mentorship and knowledge sharing at all levels Great perks and vacation time, staff are encouraged to take time off and rest

    Cons

Rapid change and growth can create chaos at times Sometimes running too many projects and initiatives at once

    Fast-paced, friendly, continuously growing start-up!

    Pros

The work is fun! I wake up and look forward to work. I've never had an easier time rolling out of bed and getting started with my day. This is due to a handful of reasons: - the people are amazing and supportive - HR creates nice events for people to connect pretty frequently - culture focuses on getting things done and doesn't get bogged down by anything else - managers really care about making everyone's lives better at work - ...and the managers really care about our general well-being/emotional health/etc - it's comfortable to reach out and chat with anyone in the company - the company continuously improves and makes changes based on feedback - it never feels like you're completely locked in one place - so much room to learn and grow - remote work, but with co-working space to enjoy - I can tell that Makeship really tries its best to reflect its values as a company and of course, ...we. make. plushies.

    Cons

Most start-ups have growing pains, and if you've worked in a start-up before, none of this will be surprising to you: - processes are frequently changed and altered, things get built out day by day, so you must be prepared to learn and re-learn how to do your job very frequently - similar vein to the previous point, but larger companies have more tools to prospect, track data, etc - Makeship is much more scrappy as a whole - consumer goods industry has physical limitations for scaling that, for example, do not affect saas/tech nearly as much, which can sometimes be frustrating - as with most sales roles, some weeks can be a bit overwhelming

    Exciting place to work

    Pros

Makeship is a true startup where you get to be accountable for your own work and success. For anyone that's entrepreneurial, it's a great place to hone your skills and grow professionally. The team is truly awesome, everyone is incredibly hardworking, passionate, and co-workers that I would consider friends.

    Cons

Strategy isn't always fully formed but it also gives you the opportunity to participate. The team is dispersed across Toronto and Vancouver so it won't be easy to hang out with all your co-workers

    Pros

    - Career growth opportunities with the company growing rapidly - Remote with schedule flexibility - Leads who care deeply about the individuals on their teams - No room for complacency with continual improvements to work, culture, structure, etc.

    Cons

Overall, no major cons to working at Makeship. This is a company for those who are comfortable with constant change and improvements and deal well with ambiguity.

First day at work feels like meeting a group of familiar friends from a past life!

    Pros

Everyone is vastly different with unique backgrounds, talent and skill-sets and there's bound to be someone you meet who you'll connect with instantly. Each project feels like a breath of fresh air and the workplace encourages communication and questions. There is plenty of room to grow and make your own niche within the community. Ideas no matter how crazy they appear are welcome here! Can't wait to meet the team after the pandemic is over!

    Cons

Nothing major but given this is a new company, give them some time to organize for a rapidly growing team.
