      Good work environment

      Pros

Good communication, relaxed and friendly despite having a high animation quota and quality standards

      Cons

Despite high quality and variety the projects are mostly television series so there are time and quality limitations that come with the genre. That being said, you should have opportunities to do excellent animation within those constraints at Mainframe.

The place to start as a junior, but must move on at some point

      Pros

-Great company culture: beer Fridays, pancake breakfasts, bake sales, summer party, Christmas party, just to name some events that happen year round. -Great place for junior artists to start their career, mentorship program available through the FPA position. -One of the best pipelines in the industry with a strong technical team creating tools other studios can only dream of. -Good work location, plenty of cafes around the neighborhood, dessert places and restaurants. Clinic and pharmacy on the ground floor in the same building. Less than a 10 min walk away from West 4th. -Gated underground parking available -Good internal facilities, free coffee, vending machines, two kitchens, good washrooms, small gym on the ground floor. -Good benefits. -Never had overtime in years (although animators and lighters could see OT)

      Cons

-Low pay may be the biggest reason people come and go. -Short contract at times, depending on department. The animation and lighting department seem to have the highest turnaround but in recent years it's gotten better. -Some projects may seem boring. -Commuting in by the 99 bus is no fun. -No overtime pay - you only get a $20 dinner as compensation. -In recent years there have been little communication between corporate and the artists, whereas 3 years ago every few months we would get an update in the form of a town hall meeting on the studio situation and what to expect in the coming months in terms of projects.

So Close To Being An Above Average Studio

      Pros

Relaxed Work Environment. Great Work Culture. Friendly Co-Workers.

      Cons

Focusing on the wrong "innovations". Relaxed work environment causes senior artists to be reluctant to change. Behind on some of the latest animation tools which could help overall efficiency.

      Relaxed place to work

      Pros

Relaxed and friendly environment. Opportunities to move up in the company if you stick around. Little to no OT- This is a great place to work if you want to have a life outside of work. You're able to come in at 9 and head home at 6 with no pressure to do OT as long as you're getting your work done during the day. Decent facilities with a large kitchen and balcony to hang out and eat your lunch in the sun. A great place to start out, as they are willing to hire new grads as junior artists, or as PAs and train them to move up into an artist role. Beer friday every week

      Cons

The projects aren't that exciting - mostly straight to DVD projects. The work can get a bit monotonous and not a ton of opportunity to learn new things unless you are a junior artist. While OT is pretty rare, any OT you do work is not compensated Pay may not be as high as VFX studios in the city, but is probably on par or higher than other similar animation studios.

      - Neat pipeline (very organized) - Don't do overtime much - Spacious, big and comfortable place to work at - Pretty good location (access to food & beach) - Friendly people, more like family here

      Cons

      - Inflexible hours (they really want you to work from 9-6) - Unpaid Overtime (though they don't do overtime usually but compensate it with dinner) - Payment a bit low as compared with other animation studio
