I worked at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Vacation, flexible hours, people are great.

    Cons

    - Compensation plan
    - Having to disrupt customers in the middle of their work day to talk to them on why they are not buying MSC.
    - This is not a sales job, its a problem solving job/ glorified customer service position.
-This company is stuck in the 90s and did not change when they were supposed to. Phone is not the only way to communicate
    - Some members in Management do not know how to talk to their employees,
    - If you don't hit your daily call requirement your supervisor will freak out on you.
    -

    Advice to Management

The industry is changing and also the way customers are buying. Customers do not want to be steered away from the work that they are doing to talk to sales representatives on why they are not buying certain things.
    - You cannot predict what a customer is going to spend. Forecasting their business is never accurate.
    - Employees should not be held accountable to how a customer spends their money. At the end of the year it will be held against the employee causing them not receive a merit raise.
    - Employees should not be rated on how long they talk to a customer and how many customers they reach a day. People don't like to talk on the phone and be taken away from their jobs, with that, customers give one word responses because they are busy too.
    - Management needs to focus on other ways to reach customers. The Chat feature needs to be implemented so customers who have reps, can get in touch that way. This will allow clearer communication, and precise requests.
    - Ensure a healthy work environment is implemented.
Management gets mad when you go outside and take a 15 min breather.
    - Make the environment more open to feedback. The policy is not open door when the main boss can never take any feedback from employees.
