Pros
An amazing company to work for. Everyone had a blast working here, the motto was work hard play harder. And they really took it to heart. Prior to the founder stepping down, three day weekends every other week were the norm. Mondays everyone came into the office very upbeat and well rested. And when things were good, the CEO shared the wealth with everyone, from top to bottom. Bill really gave a good example of how to treat people nicely, no matter your title, he would greet everyone he came across, a very humble man.
Cons
There was an underlying toxicity in the workplace, a lot of gossip coming from the one person that assisted the CEO, and even sexual harassment from this one person towards some of the younger guys. Everyone saw this happened yet they feared them and no one talked to HR about it. Or at least HR never did anything to nip it in the bud. When one of the students finally left, he mentioned that if MEG wasn't such a nice place to work for, he would file a sexual harassment suite against this person.

Pros
Compensation and benefits are above average. Many great people working in this company. Upper management promotes a family environment which includes many social events throughout the year, and a great Christmas party and summer party. Potential for growth of the company is large due to their excellent resource base. Every 2nd Friday off in Calgary offices. Free iPhone.
Cons
There are limited processes and thus a lot of your work will be unpredictable. Many departments operate under a "who you know - not what you know" scheme so you have quite a few defective people, including some in management positions. It is hard to advance in many departments without having a personal relationship with the boss as very little (bonus, raise, career advancement) is based on merit alone.

Pros
Excellent Pay and Perks. Surreal work environment in downtown Calgary. Overall, very friendly people. Flexible hours, every other Friday off, 36 hour work week. Vacation benefit exceeded expectation. Excellent severance package.
Cons
Underutilized.... Almost had to beg for something to do. My biggest challenge was staying awake. Work that MEG had where I was an expert, was given to others without the expertise. The tail wagged the dog in too many instances in that hired EPC companies were calling the shots in too many cases. Improvement from past projects was frowned upon. I was eventually laid off which, in hindsight, was a good thing!

Pros
They use to have a strong belief with advancement and opportunities for their Staff. Great Benefits offered, flexible work hours, and fostered the sense of productivity, innovation and change. Your team was valued and offered the chance to make a difference. You were rewarded for hard work and collaboration.
Cons
Post IPO and hiring some poor leaders, the company morale declined, and was greatly hindered. They fired many great people, and promoted the wrong people. This succession and changing of the guard resulting in poor performing teams, misguided tasks and questionable leadership.

Pros
-Excellent compensation -Nice additional perks along salary (Flex Fridays, LTI, RRSP Matching) -Small tight knit business units -Some very experienced and smart long-timers who are great mentors
Cons
-Nepotism on a borderline unethical level (hard to move up) -High salaries often lead to people in over their head who will deflect issues leading to more issues -Some management levels have very little understanding of the low level operations of their own groups

Pros
Good culture of fun. Good work life/balance. Great reservoir. Great pay. Benefits were incredible.
Cons
Management unable to make decisions. Budgets were always late and uncertain as to scope and size. Pride themselves on reacting fast to conditions, but end up costing a lot of money for those changes and stressing the staff. No corporate goals provide to staff. Massive debt. No corporate strategy for career development.
