I worked at Los Angeles Water and Power full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Lots of opportunities with chances to move across the department relatively easily. - Largest municipal utility in the United States. Great experience. - Some divisions are working on cutting edge utility initiatives. - Strong benefits, family environment, lots of employee protections. - In the right divisions, a great work/life balance.

    Cons

    - Being so large, it is very bureaucratic. It is a classic government entity, and moves at the speed of government. ("Hurry up and wait") - Certain divisions are absolutely toxic. Borderline sexist, abusive, power hungry people and managers. Worst part, it's almost impossible to remove them or fire them. - A fair share of 'zombie employees'. Clock-in, clock-out, doing the bare minimum to avoid detection. - Certain divisions are doing amazing work, yet have few employees assigned to the division and tend to get overworked.

I have been working at Los Angeles Water and Power full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are really good. I was at first scared that there will not be a lot of work. But there actually is a lot. Software is really antiquated and there is alot of opportunities to rebuild it.

    Cons

Too much red tape. Must as for approval for everything.
