I have been working at Los Angeles Superior Court full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Depends on your department and role. Overall stable and secure job with good benefits, but often at sacrifice of earning potential and undertaking fulfilling work endeavors. Infrastructure has improved.

    Cons

Not many growth opportunities. Hard to earn a decent salary outside of a management role. Not clear leadership. Not much recognition or acknowledgment for work well done. Divisiveness between certain groups hindering cross functional workflow.

    Advice to Management

Engage with staff for insights on how to improve rather than making top-down decisions that ultimately don't provide the solutions desired.

Management, ALOT of changes can happen, easy to not feel valued or like your doing anything that matters.

    Advice to Management

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Los Angeles Superior Court full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Develop expertise in procedural & substantive law, develop familiarity with litigation process, develop working relationships with judges, interesting work, permanent civil service promotion and excellent benefits.

    Cons

One step for promotion if you want to continue to practice law v. be an HR professional, very little flexibility & honestly comparably long hours to Biglaw, chronically underpaid, even compared to research attorneys in other counties, experience is a far better teacher than the training provided, zero assistance from management with unreasonable judicial officers, management can be tedious, impatient, and even... hostile without an intermediary - having good judge relationships is the best job insurance, can be difficult to lateral to private practice or even public entity litigation if you've had the job for an extended period. Think hard about whether you want to apply for/accept a permanent position after your 2 years are over...

I worked at Los Angeles Superior Court part-time

    Pros

Very good benefits. Everyone is friendly. The environment is not very competitive at all but more relaxed and has a "home" like environment.

    Cons

Everything is SLOW paced. VERY SLOW. Even after interviewing and accepting my position, it took the county another six months to actually get me on board and start working.
