Good place for workers to earn a decent living

Jun 12, 2021 - Equipment Operator in Surrey, BC

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good wages Strong union presence Plenty of overtime hours Lots of travel (see different locations and different plants) Diverse group of co workers

      Cons

Huge disconnect between management and employees. Lots of animosity towards each other. Lots of overtime hours means a decrease in home life and quality family time No room for professional growth within the company. You are hired as a driver and therefore will always be a driver, or a front end loader or batchman. As with all trucking jobs, they will push to get the absolute maximum volume out of you each day.

      Pros

Money isn’t bad. That’s the only good thing.

      Cons

If you like being a slave 6 days a week all summer, this is the job for you. Where else can you put in 12-15 hour days with no breaks. It’s management’s way or the Highway, if you don’t bow to their every demand, they’ll do whatever they can to get rid of you. There is no accountability for management as head office is in Texas, so they do what they want, when they want. The company is unionized, but employees are scared to stand up for themselves in fear of retribution. If you do stand up for yourself, management will lie through their teeth to win the grievance, even break labour laws to get their way. Then your marked, and have to watch your back. If your a yes man, like being a slave, and being micromanaged. This is the job for you.
