I worked at Labatt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Making beer for a living is pretty cool
The opportunities are almost unlimited if you are willing to put in the hours and relocate frequently

    Cons

Highly competitive atmosphere - managers and departments are pitted against each other. Expectations are high and days are long.

    Advice to Management

Work on engagement at the manager and technician level. There are many highly skilled people that do great work, but are kicked more often then they are thanked.

    Advice to Management

New employees onboarding needs to improve
People need more recognition for their work

I worked at Labatt full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Big brand name on your resume
    - Salaried employees get decent overtime pay
    - Free beer... and you get a lot of it!
    That's about it.

    Cons

    - No training whatsoever to new group managers. Bare minimum initial orientation in the form of safety-obsessed PowerPoint presentations.
    - Sink or swim mentality: If you can learn very quickly and survive on your own with zero help from your backstabbers.. I mean co-workers, then you will do okay here. Otherwise you will sink and will be filtered out fairly soon.
    - Minimal to no communication on expectations and job performance from superiors. Your own boss will not care about you and if you don't make extra effort to over-communicate then your boss's boss may not see your value.
    - Ridiculously high turnover in management! After I joined, at least 3 or 4 managers quit or were let go within a span of 4 months. And people told me that this was common.
    - It is a snake pit! Watch out for yourself. You never know who is a friend and who is judging or reporting on you.
    - Supposed "old timers" assigned to train new group managers, fail to do so and are tight-lipped and unfriendly.
    - As group manager, you will not know who you actually report to. None of the senior managers care about your personal development on the job.
    - Extremely negative attitudes, opinions and airs from almost everyone, particularly the nasty trades people like mechanics and electricians who transfer their own frustrations towards unsuspecting new group managers.

Really, only 2 groups of people continue to work here on a long term basis: Hourly employees highly cushioned and well-protected by a strong union and backstabbing cliquish senior managers who are looking out for nobody but themselves.

The worst thing is, I actually read all the negative and cautionary reviews here and still decided to ignore them to get experience with a big brand name. Big mistake.

    Advice to Management

It is no use writing anything here.
