      Pros

      Offers lots of opportunities for career development. Lots of opportunities to progress a retail career through internal promotions. Offers a living wage for all staff at all levels. Aims to be ethical.

      Cons

      This job requires a lot of emotional labour which can be very taxing. Pushy sales tactics encouraged by head office often leads to awkward customer experiences. Little support from head office. Can be difficult to maintain work-life balance due to understaffing throughout retail shop. Winters are very busy while summers are very slow which affects scheduling and leads to inconsistent pay throughout the year.

      -free coffee beverages and tea

      Cons

      -very crowded from september to january/february and not enough space comfortably to work at a table -a lot of unfriendly people -team leaders push you to hit target but they don't properly train and advise you on how to make the products -under-appreciate production assistants -unrealistically high targets per person per hour -unprofessional and disrespectful workplace

      Learned very good sales techniques. Good discount, nice products and some fun training activities.

      Cons

      I worked for Lush for about 6 years. They used to treat us much better with better product sampling, better engagement for both training and sales motivation. Also, near the middle and very much towards the end, I felt extremely undervalued and what made it worse was how undervalued my manager was. She was “interim manager” and worked harder than any manager I ever had while not being paid the manager salary or given manager benefits. They got away with this for months by insisting this was a training period and the job would be hers… just to hire an someone else who wasn’t nearly as competent. They really took advantage of her which was definitely a trend and not just a rare case. Also, they do get involved with social causes frequently, but back in 2013 when the BLM movement started, we were prohibited to talk about it on the shop floor even when Lush positioned themselves as human rights activists. They only showed support in 2020 when it would’ve been detrimental to their business and sales if they didn’t.
