    Potential wasted

    Pros

People are smart and committed. The space/industry is interesting. Every employee gets a system to take home.

    Cons

Exec level trying to do too much. Company is too slow to change its ideas. Blame game is present during meetings with execs. Everyone is burnt out, but company still asking for more more more. Culture in the engineering office is terrible, and most people seem constantly frustrated with the direction of the company. Lip service paid to company values, but not followed by those at the top-most level.

    Pros

Working with a great bunch of people that are highly skilled is always a pleasure. This company is like extended family to me. You can walk up to anyone at any time to ask questions or share information and never have to fear about being turned away. Everybody understands the value and importance of work-life balance as there are a lot of employees with young families. All the tools are available to get your job done, and can be completed in a comfortable work environment.

    Cons

As this is a small company, desired industry/domain training is something you need to seek out on your own, but all resources to get your job done are available to you.

    A bad risk

    Pros

They are a creative group of people, trying very hard to drive innovation in their niche of the entertainment system industry.

    Cons

    - Financially weak - ongoing layoffs, cutting corners to get a job done. Well past the point of running a lean ship, they are under staffed and under equipped. - A lot of lip service is given to a "flat" culture where everyone has the same level of responsibility and where departments are working collaboratively. In practice, there are many examples of favoritism and cross-team friction. - When you have senior management (director level) firing off profanities during team meetings, it is clear there is little appreciation of what is acceptable in today's corporate work place. Even in a small company there are standards that need to be followed. - Despite their founding in 2001, in 2013 they are trying to restart almost from scratch and are at the same level of risk and maturity as any new startup company. - Having offices both in Ontario and California, they have not learned how to work across the time zones effectively. Instead there is a constant demand on employees in Ontario to put in full work days plus be available into the evenings to communicate with their counterparts in California. This puts a long-term strain on one's personal time.

    Pros

They loan you one of their Kaleidescape players and that is pretty much it.

    Cons

Everything about this company is a con, included the offer itself. The company will offer you one position, and weeks later you are doing something completely different than what you were hired to do. Management at this company falls into two categories: 1) Yes men and 2) Dinosaurs who micro manage manage by fear. If what you have been doing the last 5 years hasn't worked, and sales have either plateaued or declined, then management should be to blame and not the sales people. Worst culture in the history of companies, this company has no culture what so ever. One’s birthday is not even recognized, new employees are hardly recognized, not even an email to introduce new employees to the rest of the company. There is one event a year, and that is Christmas, and that is at some cheap crappy restaurant to keep costs low, and all they do is talk shop at the dinner. People working here are as dry as a summer in the Arizona desert in mid July. It is a “What have you done for me lately?” mentality from management, there is no appreciation for non revenue contribution to this company, no forward thinking, very short sited management. Technology is archaic, still using HDD to keep manufacturing costs low instead SSD drives that will increase the speed and stability of the players. They charge $8000 for a player and cant even put in a $200 SSD into the player…. Don’t be fooled about their pitch about the company, the average tenure of an employee at Kaleidescape is 6 years, that is because there are approximately 10 people that have been there over 15 years, remove them from the equation, the average tenure is less than 18 months. Regional Sales Managers aside from a few have lasted less than a year, most less than 6 months and one accepted an offer and came to his senses and didn’t even bother to show up cause he knew the company was a cluster F. Stay away at all cost, you do not want to waste your time on a company like this.

    An 18-year-old Silicon Valley Startup

    Pros

Kaleidescape is an agile company that makes a best-in-class source for movies for high-end home theaters and media rooms. The engineering is second to none for the hardware and software. There are great opportunities for employees at all levels to make meaningful contributions to the success of the company. It is a technology company that is truly a part of the entertainment business, as well, providing the highest quality movie, concert and TV series files for download.

    Cons

It can be difficult to convey the value proposition to people who are not familiar with the Custom Install or Home Theater market.

    Pros

I can’t think of many. The people that have been here forever are passionate about movies, so I guess there’s that.

    Cons

There is an archaic, top-down, autocratic management style in place that is so out of step with the times that it is almost comical. Be prepared to be micromanaged, boys and girls - they just can’t help themselves. If you want to stay onboard, kiss up to them and do things exactly their way or you’re out. Insecurity and all kinds of other psychological complexes run rampant through the “leadership” team, but I wouldn’t exactly categorize the people in charge as leaders. They dress people down in meetings and are disgustingly rude and arrogant.

    The Company Could Be Great...

    Pros

Nice Co-Workers: For the most part everyone was very nice and helpful. You could go up to most people and ask them for help without getting any attitude or get talked down to. Work/Life Flexibility: The higher-ups in my department were very lenient when it came to time off. When you asked for some time off, you were most likely approved that time.

    Cons

Let Go Without Notice: I know that California has an AT WILL termination policy, but for a company that emphasized on multiple occasions that we, the employees are like family, they sure did not treat us like one when they let us go. I could tell that some of the employees knew that this was going to happen and didn't seem shocked when the news came out. Since they were brought back a few months later. High Expectations: Always felt like we were on a do or die schedule. Higher ups expect you to know everything about how things worked and chastised you for not knowing the answer at that moment.

    Pros

The company used to be great, but has really gone downhill in the last 7 years.

    Cons

All talented people have left or were let go during the two RIFs that the company has experienced. The top management doesn't know what they are doing and keep micromanaging their staff. There is no trust left and the work atmosphere has become really toxic. Every one for himself type of mentality.
