  5. "Mixed bag"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Graduate Trainee in London, England

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some amazing people, good managers among the bad, training contract, good name on CV

    Cons

Working hours are ridiculous for the pay, being at the mercy of clients, big disparity between what the partners think goes on and what actually goes on, partners setting unrealistic deadlines, managers become so obsessed with meeting deadlines that they lose touch with reality and become slave drivers (eg manager calling at 11pm on a Friday to ask for a piece of work to be completed). The culture can be quite toxic..., there’s a sense that if you leave you ‘weren’t up to it’ or are somehow weak.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than a year

    Pros

KPMG can offer a wealth of opportunities and development options. Employees are extremely helpful and friendly, making networking easy and fun. As a graduate it is relatively easy to explore other options, as long as commitment and interest was displayed in one's current work.

    Cons

Opportunities aren't just given out - so hard work, loads of communications and pro-activity is needed to obtain them. Especially when looking into other teams, it can get very political. There are no fast promotions in the graduate scheme, so it can feel like people are locked in. Benefits for junior staff, especially pension, are under average in comparison to other firms.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the flat hierarchies and continue working on making leadership more approachable. Give graduates more opportunities to prove themselves and further promote connected consulting.
