I worked at KPFF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The organization is incredibly open minded to entrepreneurial individuals. If you have an interest in something, and can show that you have the ability to profitably take on work, most people in leadership will support you. The principals are generally a well-versed and strategic group, who are widely trusted to be driving the company while thinking about the long-term stability and profitability.

    Cons

While the flat organization and independent operating structure allows for great flexibility and adaptability, the lack of centralized data management can cause gaps in information flow and inconsistencies from one project/group/division/manager to the next. Similarly, those with an interest in cutting edge technology would likely find the speed to adoption of new project management software in this setting to be... stifling.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at KPFF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Reading over some of the positive reviews, clearly not what's happening. Company does well to train fresh graduates, but lacks growth

    Cons

Principals/managers have constant pressure to perform company goals. Unfortunately this is a perfect example of a sweatshop.

    Advice to Management

Treat your low level employees like human beings.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at KPFF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the lower level co-workers and software

    Cons

Associates and Principals do not own up to their responsibilities. Very stressful environment and turnover is very high. Good engineers do not last.

    Advice to Management

Your company is entirely focused on making money.... Look at your employees, there is a reason why everyone leaves and does not stay long.

    I worked at KPFF

    Pros

exposure to various types of projects - commercial, agency, government; support from internal engineering and CAD groups; independence, freedom and encouragement to pursue your own jobs/projects.

    Cons

high demands to be billable and low interest in exploring new project opportunities; base salary is lower than in other consulting firms; good performance and initiative do not translate into award of bonuses.

I have been working at KPFF full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Co-workers are great people and there are interesting projects, a great place to expand on your skills as there are plenty of opportunities to gain experience.

    Cons

Management is mostly absent from work, demands you are more billable on your timecard yet does nothing to improve the work load.

    Advice to Management

Improve your own work ethic before you try and improve others.

    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at KPFF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A wide variety of great engineering projects, vary large to very small, across several groups: transportation, civil, structural, project management. In general financially transparent. If you are self motivated and willing to speak up, you can work on what you want, develop your own clients.

    Cons

This seems to be very limited growth above the PM level. Pay scale is in my experience low.

    Advice to Management

Those at the top need to be productive, participating members at KPFF. They appear to be overhead drain only. Retire, or get to work.

Project Manager in Los Angeles, CA
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at KPFF

    Pros

Great place to work for as entry level - up to 3 years. Will get ample opportunities to work on different kinds of projects and clients. Direct daily interaction with clients, consultants, contractors, reviewing agencies. Will get a chance to manage projects and clients in less than 5 yrs. Some flexibility in working hours allowed. Overtime compensation available. Fast paced learning environment.

    Cons

Very slow to almost no career progression for mid-level employees due to flat company organization. Bureaucracy in management committee affects career advancement. No authority given to project managers leading to dysfunctional project team and often conflicts - An offshoot of flat company structure. Promises made to employees at all levels never followed upon. Management consists of mediocre managers as leaders.... Mediocre benefits and poor compensation - under par with industry standards.
