I have been working at K12 part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The convenience of being a teacher at both a brick and mortar school and having an opportunity for extra income in a position like K12 offers is tremendous. For part time work the pay is very good. For the job itself - there is plenty of support, lots of people to connect with as you need, and plenty of students to be supportive of. It is super convenient to work from ... wherever... and k12 platforms have improved enough over the years to make this position basically mobile.

    Cons

The initial year I worked at K12 was tough. The learning curve of all the different platforms and kind of a sink or swim approach was hard to muddle through. However, K12 has worked to improve their onboarding training and this seems to be better now. It is a bit complicated too, to be a contractor (at the beginning) which can be a deterrent and a frustration. But, if you can muddle through it - the end result is worth it.

I worked at K12 part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Was able to gain valuable experience as an online teacher. My subject area supervisor was great. Worked from home. Hours were fairly flexible.

    Cons

Pay was $12/hr. After three years, got a whopping raise of 24 cents. At one point as a part-time teacher, I had 800 students. Keystone School was year-round, no summers off. Full-time teachers (50 wks/yr) were paid only $30,000/yr. Very high turnover of staff and management.

I have been working at K12 full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They are focused on providing quality online education for students grades k through 12. You work independently from home as an online teacher.

    Cons

Expect to work very long hours if you get a job here. Their student-teacher ratio is unrealistic.
