I have been working at John Lewis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay for the type of role, great partner benefits i.e. lots of discounts in various places, partners really are friendly and approachable.

    Cons

I would not join if you are keen to develop and learn. I've worked for a few other retailers and John Lewis offers by far the worst development and progression opportunities. Lots of lip service to this but no real action.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on Partners career opportunities.

I have been working at John Lewis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance in comparison to many other large corporates
    Not driven by shareholder demands

    Cons

    Very little progression
Offers and benefits no better or worse in comparison to many other organisations

    Advice to Management

Get clear on what we want to achieve and how we plan to be distinct.

I worked at John Lewis full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great employee benefits including partnership discount, fantastic holiday packages and away day events.
    Good team of colleagues.

    Cons

Despite numerous approaches and promises regarding promotion or formal training for a position in either management or another department, it never materialised. I kept asking and asking and promises were made but nothing was ever realised. Other colleagues who had been working in the coampny much longer than me had the same view. After applying for a managerial role and failing to get an interview despite training and all the credentials and knowing the team hiring, I gave up and left.

    Advice to Management

Have more belief in the team that works for you and treat them with more respect instead of assuming they are too incompetent to do anything without being watched over.
