I have been working at John Lewis part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Work is interesting if you want it to be. You are able and encouraged to take up development opportunities and managers give you responsibility to respond
    - Good benefits: 25/12% JL Discount, 15% Waitrose Discount. £60 Theatre/Concert ticket subsidy, £250 learning subsidy, discounted cinema tickets, free entry to museums & attractions, restaurant discounts.
    - Partnership Bonus (although is generally quite low at the moment)
    - Tries to be a democratic organisation
    - Generally the people are very nice.
    - Great job for a student/part-time worker as the discounts make a good lifestyle slightly more affordable as well as giving you money.

    Cons

    - Sometimes a little bureaucratic
    - Takes a long time to make things happen
    - Performance only reviewed annually - doesn't feel as if your manager knows you well enough to have accurate insight into your performance.
    - Sometimes you stay late but are not paid overtime.

    Advice to Management

    - Make it easier for Level 10 Partners to progress
    - Increase minimum salary. Allow new Partners to progress to "good" 3 months after their start date (if they join just after the performance reviews then they have to wait a year for a pay rise - not great).

I have been working at John Lewis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As part of the John Lewis Partnership you can enjoy all the benefits of being a Co Owner of the business. Working in one of the Partnerships 5 Hotels, open to employees of John Lewis & Waitrose, you get the satisfaction of providing a great leisure benefit for Partners whilst working at a beautiful country club set in 120 acres, on the river.

    Cons

As with any hotel, working at The Odney club can be hard work. In front of house areas, you spend many hours on your feet. In housekeeping, the work is physically demanding and many departments require you to work a mixture of early mornings and evenings, not to mention weekends. That said, if you love providing great customer service and pride yourself in delivering a total guest experience which exceeds the marketplace, the Pro's outweigh the Cons.

    Advice to Management

Shout about what a great place to work The Odney Club is.

I worked at John Lewis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and friendly people

    Cons

Too many operations managers with different management styles, lack of staff and poor pay. Serious lack of development opportunities for managers and have to jump through hoops for the tiniest of pay rises

    Advice to Management

Develop your management team better, do not micro manage

I worked at John Lewis part-time

    Pros

Co-workers and Line Manager were really friendly, understanding and helpful. It was a nice and busy environment which makes the day go a lot quicker. We got to be in a different Department each day which was nice as I learnt about new areas.

    Cons

None really, for the time I was there it was all good. Only reason I left was because they didn't have a position less than 5 days a week.
