Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at John Hancock full-time for more than a year
Pros
To be specific, I worked for John Hancock Retirement Plan Services as a call centre representative. - Consistent pay - Decent benefits - if you’re lucky, you’ll have some nice coworkers. - no probation period - retirement package (Toronto - you can rollover to another employer) - Nice looking offices
Cons
- the participants, retirees. Basically the people you speak with on the phone regarding their retirement can be quite awful. I’m talking verbal abuse sometimes. - They expect you to do it all. Even if you do not have any computer science or IT experience, they think you can fix computer issues for the elderly over the phone. - Unfortunately, working with people from the US, you can come across some ignorance. - Manager is a good person, if they are still there in the Toronto office, but they do a lot of lip service. - Outdated systems. - Supervisors can difficult to work with. - You become only a mule that’s part of a pack, if that makes sense. - limited room for growth or advancement in that department. - high turnover because it is more hassle than it is worth. - hard work and good call centre numbers aren’t enough. There was an incident when the police had to come to the office to settle a matter with one of my coworkers. And they still got more opportunities for advancement than those who performed better, and do not cause such a commotion. True story. - bias for the US offices (Westwood and Boston) - Mamager is not breathing down your neck, but the expectations are too high for the pay.

No Opinion of CEOI worked at John Hancock full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
- A lot of management support - Solid training program - Great people to work with - Lots of opportunities to get involved
Cons
- Don't get paid overtime unless it's specifically outlined in your contract. Management's answer to the large amount of overtime that some departments work is "that it's not encouraged".

RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI worked at John Hancock for more than 10 years
Pros
Good Benefits and good working environment. There are a lot of opportunities for interesting work and there is a casual environment. Excellent work life balance.
Cons
Not a lot of promotion opportunities. It is a bit of a clique there. People in the clique get promoted no matter what their experience is. This can be frustrating at times.
