    Positive Outlook

I worked at Jack Astor's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Allowed to be yourself, playful, engaging. You are encouraged to wear flashy accessories to make a statement. Competition. Acceptance. Team service atmosphere is enjoyable to work in as a server.

    Cons

Must wear hair down. Must wear at least three accessories to work. Must have specific floor supplies or else you can't work. Unequal "Sir Corp standard" distribution amoung front of house and back of house. Sections were too small to make money.

    Advice to Management

Try to understand working to actually pay bills. Sections were too small and they didn't effectively cut staff to save labour costs.

I worked at Jack Astor's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Worked with lively, fun people; you had the freedom to be silly and guests would love it, tips were great.

    Cons

Managers were stressed often, nonsensical corporate micromanagement at times.

    Advice to Management

To the restaurant management, you do a fine job balancing the heavy and often unrealistic needs of higher-level corporate oversight and the flexibility needed to define a location's own identity. Senior Management, more autonomy for locations to build a unique culture around guests would be sublime. I get the importance of brand consistency, but more adaptability to local communities resonates strongly with... die-hard returning guests.

I have been working at Jack Astor's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Passionate and fun staff Great team building Fun work environment Company cares about food/drink quality Fair pay, no cutting corners

    Cons

Inconsistent hours Lack of employee feedback Scheduling based on manager's favorites rather than skill Gossip among managers/staff Lack of compassion for employees Punishment for booking off holidays

    Advice to Management

Understand that staff need consistent shifts/income or at least constructive feedback/explanation if their hours will be deducted. Don't choose favorite staff members and then gossip about them later with other managers. If someone has a serious personal issue (health, family, tragedy, etc.) and needs to leave work, don't tell them they are being unprofessional. Have compassion for the PEEP's that you claim to care... so much about and maintain the ability to speak to them as a friend when necessary. If a full-time staff member changes their hours to part-time, replace them only for the shifts that they can no longer work. Don't replace the employee completely and give them low-earning shifts out of spite. When an employee requests holidays off, don't punish them later by taking away their regular high-earning shifts. PEEP's understand that requesting a day off does not ensure that they won't be scheduled. As a manager, it should be understood that it is cruel to take disciplinary action on a PEEP as the result of a request that management had the right to decline.

    I worked at Jack Astor's full-time

    Pros

The people are the best part of the job. They screen for certain personalities and everyone gets along brilliantly.

    Cons

Management sees you as an number and not an individual. Management changes often. They constantly over staff. EVERY SHIFT. Seem to think that every person who serves tables can only handle 4 tables at a time which is a joke.
