I worked at Investors Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

After working here, most financial sales positions seem easy. I learned a lot working for them, it was kind of like an additional year of school, cost about the same too.

    Cons

Don't expect to be looked after. Directors hire new people as a way of gaining their family members as clients. They do not actually care about their new consultants unless they come from a wealthy family. This is a company that requires you to pay them in order to sell their products. Not recommended for anyone who does not have a strong financial cushion to fall back on. Do a lot of research on your potential director, some are great and others are similar to used car salesman.

    Advice to Management

Look out for your consultants and do more than teach them how to sell financial products. Do more to repair your image so that new consultants don't have to convince every prospect that it is not a dangerous company to invest with.

I have been working at Investors Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great CEO, Company in turn-around mode.

    Cons

Plagued by a old-school structure. Many old Division and Region Directors who treat the job as mutual fund sales rather than financial planning.

    Advice to Management

Strict vetting process of existing management. These guys drive culture in offices, and many are not on board with the new direction of the firm.

Maybe stop worrying about how you want to get to the top because you need to be able to smile at those on your way back down. No one is indispensable
