I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Management is putting in time, effort and money to address culture issues that have developed over years - Lots of R&D ongoing, and management supports it even through slower times - Highly skilled, technical workforce compared to peers in the industry

    Cons

    - Slow movers, always the first to invent a technology, but never the first to implement, commercialize it, and start making money from it - Younger work force due to recent natural attrition via retirement - Hostile ranking system (management promises to change this in the coming years) - Workforce is usually lean, which puts a lot of pressure and stress on employees during boom times

I worked at Imperial Oil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very stable job. Very good for people close to retirement. Good training opportunities when oil is booming. Good salary, pension and benefits. Very good safety culture.

    Cons

Very competetive environment. Can get toxic and only promotes certain personality types. Not much opportunities for mining engineers outside kearl even though they say so. Ranking system promotes individualism rather than team effort. Everyone is busy beating their own drums whereas Kearl seems to underperform for years.
