Great company filled with amazing people

    Pros

Competitive Salary, amazing projects to work on both on a technical standpoint and as a user. Also, being at Hopper means being surrounded by amazing, intelligent people.

    Cons

The way teams are divided makes it hard to determine who owns certain common asserts, making things like tech debt hard to overcome.

It's okay if it suits your interests

    Pros

The company is doing great due to some really amazing people working at Hopper. They have poured everything they have into their work, specially given the uncertainty of the industry last year, and despite the demoralizing attitude of the CEO and some of the senior leadership team. There are some great teams with really great managers, but it is like rolling the dice getting to join one of exceptional teams. Flexible remote work policy truly is a great perk and one that is properly implemented.

    Cons

Unfortunately there's no transparency at Hopper, and no clear performance framework in place. For previous reviews that mentioned that incompetent people were let go last year, this is truly incorrect, many top performers and hard workers were let go mostly due to their departments not deemed as essential, which is understandable, but no need to lie about their competency to make the company look good. It is also true that not all that were let go were shining stars, but it is troublesome to say that talking about the anxiety one feels after watching their colleagues get fired, or speaking out against burnout after the year everyone has had, equals "creating drama". Pay close attention to employee reviews that mention "this is not a 9 to 5 job" or that "this is a place where you have to set your own boundaries because nobody will for you". This is code for no work-life balance. Sure you can set your own boundaries, but your manager will continue adding to your plate without regard for those boundaries and you will be viewed as someone who is not a team player if you stand up for yourself. Company is having trouble finding and retaining talent due to the work culture, and so you will notice the influx of positive reviews as a tactic to distract from all the negative ones. Everything must be taken with a grain of salt (negative and positive reviews).

    Pros

Lots of very smart people work there.

    Cons

Single-threaded ownership is the buzzword of the day, and in practice its primary impact is to accelerate existing management pathologies

    Pros

Lots of room to grow as a company so there's many positions open for those who want to grow. The company is scalingquickly and is making an effort to match their investment in customer service to their growth rates

    Cons

As a relatively new company things change fast and stress levels can be high.

    This company is a joke

    Pros

Remote work, Snacks, Slack chats trashing management, Travel agent deals, cool office, Decent pay

    Cons

They absolutely tanked their online reputation by switching to a live chat system. There was no way to effectively keep up with traffic and they left many customers stranded. They treated their employees like slaves and any mention of mental health was met with annoyance. So many employees left, as the new systems were downright destructive to employee well being. The maximum volume for a customer service agent was to have 3 chats ongoing. Most employees had more than 10 at all times and good luck trying to complain about it. Your complaint will go unanswered. The scummiest response of all time to a pandemic. While some cuts may have been necessary, Hopper's upper management cut over 200 employees. Why? In order to transition their workforce overseas as they had already been planning for months. This just let them show everyone out the door quicker. No empathy. I was interviewed for a promotion on March 29th and let go April 6th. Many other employees have a similar story as I do. Hopper's motto should be: Burn out our staff, then kick them overboard.

    Pros

I love Hopper and their culture. Everyone is very friendly and the company really takes care of our wellness they always keep a good and friendly environment. They’re very flexible with unforeseen circumstances.

    Cons

Due to COVID-19 they had to reduce the benefits just for some employees which is a bummer and shady. They reduced salary just for some employees even from the same level.

    I don't recommend

    Pros

The company allowed for a work from home policy after consideration of recommendations from employees.

    Cons

Initially this was a great company who was so focused on their customers. I felt great to be a part of this team. Then they changed their systems so that we no longer accepted phone calls and emails. We were exclusively chat based. It was a disaster. Customers would send in a chat and it would take sometimes 2 weeks to respond and as an agent I had at times up to 10 chats at once with extremely upset people. They didn't seem to care anymore about customer service and if you read the reviews on Trusted Pilot you will see that many have lost faith in Hopper. They did a massive hiring in Columbia and Manila and asked for the staff to assist with training and then they did a massive layoff of the Canadian staff and they were quite heartless about it.

    Pros

Snacks and work from home policy

    Cons

The worst challenge was to feel diminished from the rest of the company. You get hired with some benefits and then those benefits are vanished. You get brainwashed trying to accept that the company is making an effort thru the pandemic but then you find out that only some positions or locations got their benefits cut and is not a collective effort. Terrible communication both internal and external. Heartless layoffs which left only fear among employees, people were promoted on a Friday and by Monday they were let go.
